Enquire nowThe Costa de Almeria region
The province of Almeria offers the best climate in the whole of Spain, warm and dry throughout the year with little rain and a large number of hours of sunshine. Temperatures reach no lower than an average of 13C in the winter and no higher than an average of 25C in the summer.
The Moorish influence can be seen everywhere from the ornate arches and windows to the domed buildings and terraced hillsides.
Inland Almeria is rather barren and arid and boasts Europe's only desert region around the village of Tabernas which has been used as the location for several western movies - some of the famous film locations are open to the public and are within an hour's drive.
In the east the lunar landscaped Cabo de Gata/Nijar nature reserve with its rugged coastline attracts hikers, bird watchers and scuba divers. It is sparsely populated with few villages and visitors feel a sense of exploration here as many of the coves can only be reached on foot.
In the west are the tourist resorts of Roquetas de Mar, Almerimar and Aguadulce. These have all the facilities of any modern resort including marinas, golf courses, hotels and many other facilities.
Almeria city is well worth a visit with the Ramblas, its many designer shops and the famous Alcabaza castle overlooking the city.
In the north are the naturist beaches of Vera with many new housing complexes being constructed. A little further south is Mojacar which successfully combines the popular beach holiday with the hillside white village that tourists love to explore. The beach resorts of Mojacar and Garrucha stretch along the coast for some five kilometres and have many delicious seafood restaurants and churingitos (beach-side bars/restaurants).
Two hours drive is the ancient Moorish city of Granada. One of Spain's foremost architectural jewels is the Alahambra - a series of palaces and gardens built in the 14 th century. The collection of buildings including the summer palace with its magnificent fountains and gardens stands at the foot of Spain's highest mountain range the Sierra Nevada. The ski slopes there are Europe's southernmost ski resort and is considered Spain's largest ski complex and one of Europe's best such facilities. In fact it is possible to ski in the morning and sunbathe on the beach in the afternoon.
The Mojacar / Bedar area
Bedar is an authentic Andalucian village in existence since the time of the Moors and nestles on the lower slopes of the Sierra Filabres. It is approximately 15 kms from the coastal resorts of Mojacar and Garrucha.
Still retaining many of its original cottages which line the narrow twisting streets and little alleyways it has managed to maintain its peace, tranquillity and beauty. For many years these characteristics have made it a popular location for artists, painters and actors.
Mojacar is visible from many miles away with its distinctive white washed sugar cube houses stacked one upon another separated by twisting cobbled streets, winding steps and old arches. Restaurants, bars and craft shops lay waiting to be discovered.
There are numerous villages close by which all celebrate their own fiestas and are always well supported by villagers and visitors alike. The most famous being the Moors and Christian’s festival held in Mojacar in June.
Golf courses abound in the locality and there are at least five within a 30 minute drive including the world famous Desert Springs golf resort.

Lovely little Casita in an exceptional setting. The photos do not come anywhere near fully displaying this unique location. Very peaceful and quiet. June is a wonderful month to travel. Casita is clean and tidy. Plenty of linen and everything you need in the kitchen. Pool is lovely. Everything is either within a couple of minutes drive (Bedar), 10-15 minutes (Turre - supermarkets/bars), and 20 minutes (Mojacar - coast/beach/bars). Cabo de Gato has amazing beaches only about 30-40 minutes to get to easy route and easy to find. Can wholeheartedly recommend the Casita and the owners are extremely helpful. |
