Tastefully furnished 2 bedroomed apartment in a mature complex with beautiful gardens and swimming pool situated away from the bustle of the main Mojacar Playa. The star attraction of this apartment is the exceptionally large sun terrace which includes a shaded outdoor dining area: when it gets too hot on the sun terrace it can be further shaded as desired by extending the retractable awnings.
The apartment overlooks tennis courts and is only 200 metres from the nearest beach. Situated at the Northern end of Mojacar Playa the apartment is a leisurely walk from the busy town of Garrucha which has a selection of shops, tapas bars and restaurants. Ideally La Mata is a holiday location for families and couples.
There is a Lifeguard on duty at the pool from mid June until mid September, the pool area is very well maintained and is rarely busy or crowded. Car rental is recommended as the area around Mojacar has a lot to offer and we would suggest that you would explore the beautiful coastline both to the North and the South and also the inland countryside and villages. For those not wishing to drive there is a regular bus service which runs from the far end of Mojacar Playa to Garrucha and also up to the very charming hilltop Mojacar Pueblo which must be experienced with it's narrow streets and Moorish architecture, Plaza Nueva offers amazing views across the Almanzora Valley and up the coastline. Regular bus also to Vera Waterpark with all it's attractions the bus stop is less than 100 meters from the Apartment.

The Andalucia region
Mojacar in the Province of Almeria in Andalucia is said to be Spain's Best Kept Secret! It is situated at the edge of Europe's only natural desert area of Tabernas and has more hours of sunshine and less rainfall than any other part of Europe. Tabernas was the location used for many of the Spagetti Western Movies made in the 1970's and it's Mini Hollywood Theme-park is less than an hours drive from Mojacar.
The old hilltop town of Mojacar Pueblo has an interesting history, the village was built by the Moors and every year it celebrates it's heritage with the Moors and Christians Fiesta which runs for a whole week end, it is a truly amazing spectacle with the usual LIve Music and Fireworks plus all the locals get involved partaking in various dummy battles some on horseback and dress in the traditional and very ornate costumes for the spectacular Parade through the village on the Sunday. This Fiesta normally takes place during the second week end in June.
Noche San Juan on 23rd June is another spectacular Fiesta to be experienced families all go to the beach for the evening and have picnics around fires and at midnight they jump over the fires and then they run into the sea. On the popular beaches this is accompanied by the usual live music and extensive forewords! Almeria Provence is also home to the Cabo de Gato Nature Park an area of great natural beauty which in turn is home to Europe's only Flamingo breeding area.
Mojacar has over six miles of beautiful sandy beaches mostly uncrowded, for those who prefer a bit more action the beach areas next to the very lively chiringitos (beach bar restaurants) are often jammed with young people particularly at week ends and in August when hoards of Madridlianos descend on Mojacar for the month. For those who prefer there are many secluded coves within easy reach of Mojacar and the Naturalist Beaches of Vera are only 10 minutes away.
Garrucha the nearest town is famous through out Spain for Garrucha Prawns and visitors can go and watch the live fish auctions on the Fishing Pier. Freshly landed fish and seafood is available in all the good restaurants in the area and the local fish shops and supermarkets have wonderful displays of fish and seafood if you wish to try your culinary skills!
The local cuisine is also greatly influenced by the Moorish history of the area and there are award winning restaurants in Vera and Cabrreara both within easy reach. The idyllic village and the beach at Agua Amarga is a firm favourite for those that can cope with the breathtaking drive over the mountains please see link to Utube.....

"We had a fab time here, spacious, comfortable, well located apartment and great pool."
This apartment "did what it said on the tin". The adults loved the large terrace and the kids lived in the pool! There was a Summer season lifeguard at the pool for the last week of our holiday. We have stayed in many Spanish apartments over the years, this was the best. In the website photos, the place looked spacious, the apartment, the gardens and the pool. Sometimes the camera can lie, but definitely not this time. The kids made friends at the pool on day one. For the adults, lazy days in and out of the terrace shade was the norm. We were there in June, the weather was hot, but the apartment was cool inside. This was our first time to a "non big tourism" destination in Spain. We found that Mojacar had something for all of us. We could walk to the beach and local shops. The Old Town up on the hill is a great place to explore. One warning though, enjoy the spectacular view over the countryside from up there, but don't have coffees and drinks for the kids on the marble terrace. Instead, stop at the small coffee bar at the side under the trees, sensible prices in the company of locals! We usually ate in at lunchtime and went out at night. Because of the financial state of the Spanish economy, many restaurants were doing "Menu del Dia" offers in the evening. The best one we found was Mediterraneo, which is on the beach side of the road down past the Commercial Centre roundabout, the Parrador Hotel and Red Cross roundabout. 3 courses at night was 12 Euro with a huge choice, and child friendly. The fishing port of Garrucha, just drive with the sea on your right, is a normal Spanish town, again great to wander around. Friday is market day (8am to 2pm), they close off two streets. Everything from handbags to herbs, roast chickens to fans, clothes to fresh veg. Good break from pool and terrace! We flew to Almeria Airport which is one hour away, so a hire car is essential. But, having the car meant that were able to visit Agua Amarga a seaside village with a beautiful beach to the south and also take a trip up into the mountains behind Mojacar. We can't go back this year, but hope to return to La Mata in 2015.
