The Costa de Almeria region

On the eastern edge of Andalucia lies the province of Almeria. It takes its name from its capital city which lies on the southern coast of the province. The region of Almeria is one of the most charming and unspoilt areas in south-eastern Spain. Enjoying the sunniest and warmest climate in the whole of Europe, it is known as ‘El Rincon del Embrujo’ or ‘the corner of enchantment’. This is the real Spain!
Almeria, despite its rugged landscape has become an important growth area and it is well known for the quality of its oranges and white grapes, most of which are exported from its port.
This Andalucian province is blessed with the longest stretch of quiet beaches and tiny hidden coves with perfectly clear water. Because of the diverse landscapes, the range of sports activities is endless from water sports to hiking, paragliding, horse riding and golf.
Almeria is the region in Spain with the greatest number of cloudless days, exceeding 3000 hours of sunshine during the year. Its average temperature is 18º and during the summer the average is 24.6º. The waters here are almost crystal clear and usually warmer than the air.
All in all, Almeria offers a diverse landscape with some excellent beaches, beautiful countryside and a wealth of history. The province is surrounded by the provinces of Granada, Murcia and Malaga, and no trip is complete without a trip to the Alhambra Palace.
The Mojacar / Mojacar Playa area
Undoubtedly the most romantic and picturesque resort town in south-eastern Spain, the white-washed houses and cobbled streets of Mojacar are sprinkled atop a hill overlooking pristine sandy beaches, washed by the warm Mediterranean. This unspoilt ancient Moorish fortress town has been a favourite with artists and writers for many years, and now attracts holiday-makers who fill up the hotels and villas which have proliferated along the nearby stretch of beach, fortunately not yet to the detriment of the town’s appearance or beguiling atmosphere. The village centre is honeycombed with narrow casbah-like cobbled alleyways, which hide many quaint surprises, like a Roman fountain pumping fresh spring water and the unusual fortified church of Santa Maria.

This year (2011) has been the third time we have stayed at 4 Isuza. We are a family with two children aged 14years and 11years. The villa is ideally located for the beach and restaurants alike. The villa overlooks the communal pool where the children are safe to play with beautiful sea views from the terrace. Very rarely is the pool busy and quite often we are the only people using it, even in peak season. The villa is very spacious and very well equipped with flat screen TV with sky connection, all white goods, including washer, microwave, grille and oven. The bedrooms have airconditioning and lovely comfortable beds. There are two mountain bikes for peoples use and a lovely roof terrace for those sun worshippers. I cannot speak highly enough of this property, as we have had three great, relaxing holidays and hope to visit again in the future. |
