The Goa / West India / Goa region
Goa is a perfect winter destination with average temperatures of 27 degrees C. Its many beaches, nightlife, flea markets and reasonable costs are among its many attractions. A Portuguese colony till the 60s, Goa has a lot of Portuguese influence in its architecture and cuisine which adds to its unique charm and is a popular resort destination for people from India and around the world.
The Monsoon rains dominate the summer months, which gives Goa a different appeal altogether with everything around wearing a lush green look.
The Moira area
Moira is a quaint village up on the hills close to the town of Mapusa known for its popular Friday market which is great for sourcing fresh produce and seafood ( on any given day of the week). Mapusa also has hospitals, tour operators, taxi/ bike hiring facilities and bus connections to the rest of Goa and outside the state.
The Moira Church is just a few minutes walk from the house, as is a Hindu temple. A bakery selling fresh Goan breads ( poi and pao) is barely a minute's walk from the house and the village also has a restaurant.

A lovely property - great architectural aesthetics with features like high vaulted ceilings with timber-clad arched roof .... a beautiful sit-out with antique ship lamps... picturesque. So unlike the regular touristy stays - this is clearly a home that has been made and put together with a lot of love and care. Great location in a quaint, authentic North Goa village; couple of houses down the lane is the village bakery with mouth-watering regional breads; a few minutes walk yields a couple of wine shops, quite de rigeur in Goa and another few minutes takes you to the beautiful village church - charmingly located by the edge of a water body and on a slight elevation... don't miss it. The smiling sari-clad lady caretaker can rustle up a meal from your local shopping - just inform her earlier ...... and great plus...an AC car with driver are available to ferry you around on extra charge and the convenience is appreciated. Eevn pick you up from the airport as we were...... Both caretaker and driver can't speak English, however, though sign language pretty much works for the basics, like all over the world. Moira Villa has all the modcons you may need - a well-equipped kitchen with much-needed accoutrements - we located a wine bottle opener which was critical as friends dropped in suddenly in the evening! We had bought some fresh prawns and just stir-fried them in olive oil and some garlic - great with red wine. I found the bathrooms charming ( okay, I have a problem if bathrooms are not okay) and they had little closed in gardens with each bathroom...... hmmmm... though I didn't venture into them...:) Well, we enjoyed our stay tremendously. Slept like babies.... and woke up to birdsong....l!!! ACID TEST: I would like to go back for a revisit!!!!!! Moira Villa is located in a quaint North Goa village |

Since we had a car available every beach was accessible. So what we did is actually trying every single beach. Even the ones in the very south (e.g. Palolem or Patnam Beach) were worth a day trip! The advantage of your mobility is not only to see how different the beaches are but also you just can do everything you like to - some sightseeing in Old Goa, some shoppings in Panaji etc. And actually travelling by car is much cheaper than by public transport. The house itself is very beautiful and reminds of a church with high ceilings. Also, the maid was there in the morning until noon, so she made the household which was extremely comfortable. All things considered, it was definetively the right choice to stay there! |

We were fed up with the crammed together places on the beaches in Goa - this beautiful holiday home in Moira had it all: Peacefulness and space to wind down (great garden, charming neighborhood), spacious bright rooms (modern facilities) and yet it's only 20 minutes drive away from the ocean. The maid was very capable and helped us organise the van. A place where life is easy! Enjoy. |
