In Moffat people generally start to appear in the various hotels and bars around the High Street about 10.00pm in preparation for the 'bells' at midnight. As the time approaches about five hundred to a thousand people gather in the high street. The atmosphere is always very good humoured. There is a piper/pipers in the square as well as fireworks to welcome the New Year. The celebrations and first footing continue well into the early hours and beyond.

"very cosy"

Hillend guest suite is a very cosy, well appointed place to stay in Moffat. I was not blessed with good weather during my stay, but the cottage was always warm and welcoming. The furniture was good quality, and very comfortable, and everything you could need was provided. The views from here are stunning, from every window! Ruth and Martin are very good hosts, who seem to genuinely care about their guests.I enjoyed a very relaxing week, and would recommend it to anyone.

"A perfect escape from it all"

I came to Hillend Guest Suite mainly because it was a very reasonable price and was within easy drive of Edinburgh. When I got there I realised it was so much more than that. Whenever it was dry my dog and I headed into the hills and had several wonderful long walks (including ones along the southern upland way), all within close walking distance. Then when the heaven opened with the many storms that happened this week, we snuggled into our beautiful wee cottage. It was absolutely perfect. Everything I needed was there; but the wonderful owners, Ruth and Martin, made it very clear that if I needed anything I need only call. It was beautifully clean, and always warm. Settled on the sofa in the conservatory with my sleeping dog at my feet I could look out at the driving sleet and feel totally content. After what has been a very difficult year finishing a masters degree alongside serious family illness, this was exactly the break I needed. Thank you Ruth and Martin for being so warm and welcoming, while giving me the space I needed. And my dog absolutely loved his holiday, particularly playing with Martin and Ruth's dog Ellie!

"Priceless were the caring owners and the peace and serenity."

We retreated to this lovely cottage for health reasons. We weren't there during the typical tourist seasons and didn't come to see the many highlights of Moffat. We stayed put mostly and found we were enchanted with the surrounding sounds and the lofty views from our windows; lush green countryside, beautiful landscaping, a variety of birds flitting about, cows looking back in at us and a couple of sweet dogs making their way up from the owner's cottage heralding a visit if you're a dog lover. The Hillend Guest Suite was everything it claimed, was beautifully furnished and was perfect for a quiet stay or a base for adventures. Priceless was the caring owners and the peace and serenity.

"Lovely cottage great location and hosts"

We were very impressed by the location of the accomodation on arrival, and by the quality of the finish both outside and in. Ruth and her husband were very helpful always on hand to answer questions but were not obstrusive. We would say this property is ideally suited for walkers or cyclists but is also within walking distance of Moffat. Could not fault the accomodation in any way, would reccomend to anyone. The owners are pet friendly and welcome pets, even their own two dogs make you welcome! Only down side would be a rather difficult access for wheelchair bound guests.
