In Moffat people generally start to appear in the various hotels and bars around the High Street about 10.00pm in preparation for the 'bells' at midnight. As the time approaches about five hundred to a thousand people gather in the high street. The atmosphere is always very good humoured. There is a piper/pipers in the square as well as fireworks to welcome the New Year. The celebrations and first footing continue well into the early hours and beyond.

"Perfect peace and quiet"
We were looking for a quiet base to explore southern Scotland. The Hillend cottage was perfect. The owners were helpful if you needed them, bur left you alone if you wanted peace and quiet. Everything we needed was there, lovely views, comfortable bed and sitting room, kitchen fine for two, good bathroom.
We couldn't think of any improvements, although it can be loud if it rains heavily!

"A Wonderful Stay."
We recently went back to stay at the newly extended Hillend Guestsuite and had a wonderful stay. Ruth and Martin are great hosts and are always on hand if you need anything. The guestsuite has everything you need and is surrounded by beautiful countryside views. Moffat town centre is just down the road and has plenty of shops/cafes and has a great museum to visit. We will be returning to Hillend Guestsuite and would recommend staying there.

"The general characterization of our stay at the Hillside Cottage, Moffat, Scotland is described as EXEMPLARY."
The area is peaceful, restful and scenic. The countryside is beautiful; A wonderful panoramic view of the valley. In addition, to finding ones roots, it is a perfect place to heal, recover and rest.
The host support is warm, friendly and active. Ruth and Martin are attentive to guests needs. They go the extra mile to make guests feel welcome and comfortable. For example, they invite guests to local cultural events, such as stage plays.
We stayed at the Hillside Cottage for a month. The price was fair. The quaint little cottage is comfortable and spacious for a couple or small family. It has a simple and useful layout. The kitchen is organized and equipped with handy support items and supplies. The bedroom is comfortable. The bed provides a good nights rest. The conservatories provide a panoramic view of the valley. Also, they are comfortable and useful. The yard and landscaping are well laid out and maintained. If one misses their pets from home, no problem, the hosts' dogs will be glad to come by each day for a doggie treat. We thank Ruth and Martin for helping us have an outstanding bucket list trip.

"Lovely people and location, shame we had to come home early"
The setting is breath taking, surrounded by beautiful Scottish countryside. The owners are friendly and helpful. The cottage is all on one level, which is handy if you suffer from a back problem or is… More
We are deeply saddened that you told us twice that everything was very good at the suite and did not discuss any of the issues you raised here, as all could have been dealt with.
The bed is a standard 4 ft 6 “ bed and is also of standard height It also includes a Silentnight Miracoil Orthopedic Comfort double mattress. However, had you mentioned it to us we would have provided you with a mattress topper etc.
Comments of dangerous furniture is very untrue and defamatory. We would not have been graded by Visit Scotland had this been the case. However, we also could have moved the furniture if you had told us there was an issue for you.
You were advised there is further parking at the side of the cottage but chose to park at the front, which is perfectly safe too, lorries parked there when the road was resurfaced a while ago.
As we live on a slow bend it is very unlikely there was any squealing of brakes heard from the guest suite, which is some distance away.
Further to this our dogs are in a separate garden to the suite and for much of the time the gates to the top garden next to the suite are shut. We have been advised by our current guests, who have been staying with us for two weeks, that the dogs do not bark constantly when we are out.
The heating in the suite is electronically controlled and pre set. Upon arrival you were advised to inform us if you would like the heating turned up or down and we would do it for you. There is further information in the Information folder supplied at the suite.
We have contacted several of our previous guests and we find it somewhat suspicious that after 34 weeks of bookings in the suite no one else has ever found any of these issues at all. Of course we want everyone that stays at Hillend to have the best stay and we have sympathy that you suffer with your disability as you do.

Hillend guest suite is a very cosy, well appointed place to stay in Moffat. I was not blessed with good weather during my stay, but the cottage was always warm and welcoming. The furniture was good quality, and very comfortable, and everything you could need was provided. The views from here are stunning, from every window! Ruth and Martin are very good hosts, who seem to genuinely care about their guests.I enjoyed a very relaxing week, and would recommend it to anyone.

"A perfect escape from it all"
I came to Hillend Guest Suite mainly because it was a very reasonable price and was within easy drive of Edinburgh. When I got there I realised it was so much more than that. Whenever it was dry my dog and I headed into the hills and had several wonderful long walks (including ones along the southern upland way), all within close walking distance. Then when the heaven opened with the many storms that happened this week, we snuggled into our beautiful wee cottage. It was absolutely perfect. Everything I needed was there; but the wonderful owners, Ruth and Martin, made it very clear that if I needed anything I need only call. It was beautifully clean, and always warm. Settled on the sofa in the conservatory with my sleeping dog at my feet I could look out at the driving sleet and feel totally content. After what has been a very difficult year finishing a masters degree alongside serious family illness, this was exactly the break I needed. Thank you Ruth and Martin for being so warm and welcoming, while giving me the space I needed. And my dog absolutely loved his holiday, particularly playing with Martin and Ruth's dog Ellie!

"Priceless were the caring owners and the peace and serenity."
We retreated to this lovely cottage for health reasons. We weren't there during the typical tourist seasons and didn't come to see the many highlights of Moffat. We stayed put mostly and found we were enchanted with the surrounding sounds and the lofty views from our windows; lush green countryside, beautiful landscaping, a variety of birds flitting about, cows looking back in at us and a couple of sweet dogs making their way up from the owner's cottage heralding a visit if you're a dog lover. The Hillend Guest Suite was everything it claimed, was beautifully furnished and was perfect for a quiet stay or a base for adventures. Priceless was the caring owners and the peace and serenity.

"Lovely cottage great location and hosts"
We were very impressed by the location of the accomodation on arrival, and by the quality of the finish both outside and in. Ruth and her husband were very helpful always on hand to answer questions but were not obstrusive. We would say this property is ideally suited for walkers or cyclists but is also within walking distance of Moffat. Could not fault the accomodation in any way, would reccomend to anyone. The owners are pet friendly and welcome pets, even their own two dogs make you welcome! Only down side would be a rather difficult access for wheelchair bound guests.
