The North Wales / Snowdonia / Anglesey region
Anglesey is best loved for it's varied coastal scenery from it's wonderful sandy beaches to it's isolated coves and tiny seaside villages. The dramatic weather and rugged countryside make it an ever changing landscape. The Island is steeped in history with it's numerous historical towns such as Beaumaris, Almlwch, Llangefni and Holyhead. The lighthouses of Penmon, South Stack and the old lighthouse at Ynys Llanddwyn are popular tourist attractions and the beaches at Abberfraw, Rhosneiger & Red Wharf Bay are second to none making them ideal locations for water sports including windsurfing, kite surfing, sailing and water skiing.
There are 5 premier Golf courses on the Island plus 4 nine hole courses providing varied options for golfers. Anglesey Sea Zoo, Pili Palas and Foel Farm are perfect for children and the White Eagle, Seacroft, Waterfront, Olde Bulls Head, Pilot Boat , Ann's Pantry, and Ship Inn are highly recommended for family dining.
Moelfre area
The pretty fishing village of Moelfre is located on the popular East coast of Anglesey and has a wonderful pub, restaurant and beach side cafe plus interesting shops selling unusual gifts, arts and crafts. The area is popular with walkers due to it's impressive views of Snowdonia from the fabulous Coastal footpath and the dramatic sandy beach and 12th Century ruins at Lligwy make it an ideal destination for a family day out.
The village of Moelfre is steeped in maritime history as it was the location for the wreck of the 'Royal Charter' in 1859 - there's a wealth of local history at the Seawatch Centre which is within easy walking distance of the cottage as is the 'state of the art' working lifeboat station.
How to get there
After crossing the Britannia Bridge leave A55 at Junction 8 then turn right onto A5025 (signposted Benllch and Amlwch) At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto A5025 and continue passing through the villages of Pentraeth and Benllch. At next roundabout take 2nd exit onto A5108 (signposted Moelfre) Continue along the road until you drop down into the village, Glan Y Don can be found on the left hand side just past The Kimnel Arms pub.
