Enquire nowThe North Wales / Anglesey region
Anglesey is a place where you can get away from it all. Relax, enjoy the tranquility and lose yourself in the island's winding lanes or on its spectacular coast, its beautiful sandy beaches and hidden rocky coves.
Anglesey is perfect for the active holidaymaker - enjoy cycling, golf, walking, fishing (sea or coarse), horse riding, watersports, rockpooling, adventure sports and even motor sports! Or relax and do as little as you want on beautiful quiet blue flag beaches, or just enjoy the magnificent views of the stunning coastline, countryside and nearby mountains of Snowdonia. Add Anglesey's unparalleled ancient history in a variety of heritage sites, museums and galleries, offering a diverse and fascinating insight into the historical and cultural heritage of the island.
Anglesey boasts a wide selection of places to eat and drink - award-winning restaurants, fabulous food shops, beach-front cafés, cosy country pubs - and many of them featuring local produce like lamb, beef and cheeses from Anglesey farms, or delicious seafood like mussels, lobster, fish and oysters from around the beautiful and rich coast.
The Moelfre area
The unspoiled fishing village of Moelfre looks like every child's vision of a seaside village – picturesque bay, beach, breathtaking views across Snowdonia, Puffin Island and the Great Orme, a working lifeboat station and tales of piracy, shipwrecks and daring rescues at sea.
The village provides an excellent vantage point to view ocean going ships to pleasure boats sailing around the Irish Sea. In adverse weather, many ships still seek shelter in the bay illuminating the night skyline.
Moelfre is one of few places where, in such a small area, history can be traced back over 4,000 years. Within just 1½ miles, visit the Neolithic Burial Chamber at Lligwy dating back to 2,000BC, with it's circle of stones topped with a 25 tonne roof slab. Din Lligwy is the remains of a 4th Century Romano-British village, and Hen Capel is the remains of a 12th Century Chapel.
For the more sand-loving guests where skimming stones on Moelfre's pebble beach doesn't appeal, Lligwy Beach (www.lligwybeach.co.uk), a large sandy beach is just 1½ miles away where you can relax on the golden sand, hunt for crabs and fish in the rock and sand pools, or paddle, or more daringly, engage in watersports in the glorious blue sea. Traeth Bychan is 1½ miles in the opposite direction to Lligwy and is the home to Red Wharf Bay Sailing and Watersports Club.
