Enquire nowThe North Wales / Anglesey region
Anglesey is a place where you can get away from it all. Relax, enjoy the hospitality and lose yourself in the island’s winding lanes or on its spectacular coast. There's also plenty to do for all the family with events, attractions and outdoor activities all set in beautiful scenery
You don’t have to take our word for it that Anglesey is a lovely island. Back in 1966 the powers that be took one look at our sheer limestone cliffs and long sandy beaches and labelled them an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The biggest in Wales, as it happens. More than 220 square miles stretching virtually the entire length of the coastline and covering a third of the island.
The Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path was launched back in 2006. It goes all the way around the island and 95% of it is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Don’t go thinking that, because Anglesey has a reputation for being fairly flat, our lovely circuit will be easy. Walk its entire length and you will have ascended nearly 4,174 metres, or 13,694 feet in old money. That’s the equivalent of walking up Snowdon. Three-and-a-half times. Or you could try one of the many and varied shorter walks that link with the coastal path. Circular walks and linear walks. Heritage walks, wildlife walks and “geo trails” – Anglesey is world-famous for its rocks.
Beaches, we have loads and all different kinds. Little bays and rocky coves. Long sandy beaches. Even a beach with a forest attached at Newborough. And in 2011 no fewer than six of them were awarded the ultimate accolade of a Blue Flag.
The Moelfre / Lligwy area
Less than a 2 minute drive or a 15 minute walk from Mountain View is Lligwy Beach. Coast magazine, placed Lligwy beach in their ‘10 Best Picnic Spots by the Sea’. They were very taken with the sausage-and-bacon baps from the café and the shallow shelving beach (perfect for paddling). They liked the homemade cakes and the ice cream from Plas Farm. And yes, they loved the rockpools, too. They didn’t even mention the ancient fish trap, the island where you can spot seals, dolphins and porpoises - or the beach hut selling everything from body boards to wind breaks. Perhaps they nodded off after all that food.
A mile and a half from Mountain View is the picturesque fishing village of Moelfre, with a long maritime history – the active Moelfre Lifeboat Station and Moelfre Seawatch Centre. Moelfre is also on the Anglesey Coastal Path. The meaning of the Welsh language word ‘Moelfre’, translated into English, is 'bald or barren hill', which describes the land behind Moelfre village, as seen from the sea. The village has a cafe/restaurant, pubs, craft shops and the local village shop. For more information on Moelfre and the surrounding area visit the village website www.moelfre.org.

We arrived after a long journey from Gloucester and were welcomed warmly. My little girl was thrilled to be presented with a bag of Easter Eggs which was a really nice touch The outlook from the property and the surroundings are stunning. The grounds are immaculate and the property is lovely. The interior is well maintained and very pretty. All the facilities were excellent and we would definitely go again. Wifi is available, but not in the property, you have to step outside and sit in a small office. This isn't a problem, just a little inconvenient if you want to look on the Internet when relaxing in the evening. You will need a car as the shops are not within walking distance and the beach is quite a walk, but if you enjoy walking this is not arduous. Thank you to the Hughes-Roberts for such a lovely stay and for providing such a lovely holiday location, we hope to be back next year. |
