About the home

This newly restored Breton house is in a superb position a short walk from the centre of the picturesque village of Le Pouldu, which has a succession of delightful little coves, one of which is five minute's walk from the house. This is a very picturesque area, frequented by Gauguin and other artists of the Pont Aven School, and this house actually appears in one of Gauguin's paintings. Originally a cider barn, the house has been rebuilt using traditional, top quality materials throughout.

cheerful atmosphere.
Ground floor: Entrance hall with cloakroom and WC. Spacious living room with
comfortable seating, fire-place, TV, DVD, Wi-Fi and dining area. Attractively
fitted modern kitchen with 4-ring hob, oven, microwave, fridge-freezer,
dishwasher, washing machine and drier. Double bedroom, (160cm), with en suite
shower room and W.C.
First floor: Four bedrooms, two doubles (140cm), triple with single beds, and
a twin. Bedroom six is a mezzanine with a Breton bed suitable for two
children or one adult. Two bathrooms, one with a bath and one with a shower,
separate WC. Cot and high chair available on request.
Outdoors: Enclosed
rear garden with terrace, sun loungers, garden furniture and BBQ for outdoor
meals. Open front garden with old barns. Parking.

The Brittany / Finistere region

Le Pouldu is on the coast about 25k west of Lorient. The house is within easy walking distance of the village and three different beaches. Le Pouldu has a couple of shops and restaurants and there is more choice at the neighbouring village of Clohars Carnoet, 4k.Quimperlé, 12k, , is a picturesque medieval town with excellent facilities including swimming pool, tennis courts, a couple of good restaurants and picturesque half-timbered houses in attractive old streets. It is 15k to Pont Aven, well known for its association with Gauguin and other artists, with several art galleries and is in a lovely setting with the river flowing through the centre of the town. It is 16k from Riec sur Belon, the oyster capital of the region. Other activities include horse-riding in the Forest of Carnoet and boat trips up the River Laita. There are wonderful walks along the coastal path starting near the property: to Le Pouldu harbour in one direction and on up the picturesque valley of the Laita, in the other direction. You can also walk to the pretty little port of Doelan, about 6k, a good place for lunch!

The Moelan sur Mer / Le Pouldu area

The Halle a Maree, in which the fish auction and market are held, is enormous, covering a surface of 150,700 sq. ft.

The fortified city - this little walled city was built in the 14thC and it can only be reached by a drawbridge.

The city itself is a gem, with its cobbled streets and tiny squares, which seem to have been forgotten by time. The ramparts can be visited (10.00a.m. - 7.30p.m. in summer; admission charge).
