Casa Palazzelle
About the home
Ideal as a location for a relaxing and tranquil holiday by the poolside, as a base to explore the unique history and culture of a wonderfully unspoilt area of Sicily, and as a place to enjoy the island's justifiably famous food and wine, either eaten out or enjoyed straight from the houses kitchen, wood fired oven or BBQ.
Casa Palazzelle is a tranquil and lovingly renovated Modican farmhouse with a private pool, surrounded by stunning unspoilt countryside, 8km from the UNESCO World Heritage centre of Modica. It is in the heart of the area used for the filming of the renowned Italian TV series 'Inspector Montalbano', now showing on BBC4. The house is newly renovated and has a fabulous swimming pool surrounded by patios of local natural white stone set in a secluded orchard garden filled with flowers, herbs, fruit and olive trees. The property has extensive views over open countryside, hills (including on very clear days, Mt Etna) and the sea.
The houses elevated position and thick stone walls help to keep the house naturally cool in the summer. The property also boasts an array of traditional features such tall dry stone walls, a wood fired pizza oven and a stone paved courtyard and well. The house sits between Modica and the other UNESCO World Heritage sites at Cava di Ispica, Ragusa and Noto and is an ideal base to explore the unique area.

Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, apart from a short winter in Jan - Feb it boasts a wonderfully warm and dry climate. The island is famous as a destination for the quality and range of its historical sites, dramatic scenery and outstanding cuisine.
The Modica area
Modica is a vibrant small city abounding with high quality restaurants and cafes, well known as a centre of chocolate making. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site on account of its beautiful Baroque architecture.
It lies in an area known as the Val di Noto, the gorges that are typical of the area are breathtaking, and the surrounding countryside, abounding with dry-stone walls and aristocratic villas is idyllic.
The other local towns of Ragusa, Noto and Scicli are outstanding in their own right. Slightly further afield, but an easy day trip away are the cities of Caltagirone, famed for its unique ceramics, and Syracuse with its classical remains
