The Sicily region
Sicily has on of the most pleasant climates in Europe, and every season has its own attraction. The average temperature in the deep midwinter is of 10-12 °, and in sunny days it can be warm enough to walk around in a tee-shirt. In February the almond trees are in blossom. In March and April the wild flowers begin to bloom all over Sicily and on the coast the first bathers start taking to the waters (though the water is still bracing).
It's well worth a trip just to experience the Easter processions, bringing together religion, folklore and tradition. All over the island, in large towns and tiny villages alike, processions weave their way through narrow streets and piazzas until they finally arrive at the local parish church or Cathedral.
In May the temperatures are ideal for walking with the mountain slopes exploding in colour. In June the sea is warm but the beaches are still deserted, except during the weekends when the first Sicilians start to brave the waters. The fruit trees are laden with cherries, plums, peaches, apricots. In July and especially in August the coast is crowded but the beautiful areas of the interior (and a few "undiscovered" parts of the coast) are however relatively unfrequented.
In September there is the grapes harvest or "vendemmia", temperatures remain very comfortable and the island retains that summer feeling, but without the crowds.
October is one of the most beautiful periods for country walking with the vines turning to red and orange in the vast vineyards on M.Etna. In November often the temperatures stay in the high twenties during the day, even if it can rain (and rain is very welcome), though the big storms that often sweep the Italian peninsula generally pass safely to the north of Sicily. The oranges and mandarins season is starting. In December the temperatures during the day can still be extremely agreeable.
Modica / Pozzallo area
Pozzallo, with latitude 70 km under Tunis, is both one of the sunniest town in Italy and the town is one of only 4 cities in Sicily to have been awarded “Blue Flag of the year 2008”, title obtained for the beautiful beach, crystal clear sea, coast quality, environmental education, services and security measures.
The city offers you kilometres of beaches, which are the pride of the town, a lot of restaurants that cook Sicilian recipes typical of fresh fish, bars, pubs and shops that allow you to shop all year round, not least the brand new Pietre Nere Promenade, area of the city with a strong tourist attraction in July and August. The sunny weather almost all year round, allows you to take the sun on the beach, from April to October.
Trade and tourism Port allows you to make daily trips to Island of Malta by Catamaran “ferry boat” with distance journey of about an hour.
The rest of the year, the city is the ideal place to relax away from the chaos of the city. Friendly people will allows you to feel at home.

Guestbook for Mary Apartment
Review submitted by Simon from London: "Not having heard much about Pozzallo, we were not too sure what to expect, but both the resort and the apartment were lovely. The beach in Pozzallo is one of the best Ive ever visited and is around two minutes walk from the Dolphin Apartment - the town itself around 5 mins. There are some excellent restaurants and bars in Pozzallo and very few British tourists! The apartment is spacious, with a well furnished double bedroom and a lovely bathroom - it would suit a couple or a young family, as it can sleep up to 6 if necessary. The landlord, Saro, went way beyond the call of duty and was amenable, hospitable and extremely accommodating, lending us his SatNav and buying us a kettle, (Grazie, Saro). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone...."
Review submitted by Mrs. Anne A. From Ireland: Pozzallo, which Arab traders called the well on the seaside (because of the fresh water wells found on its shore), is a hidden paradise on Sicily's south-eastern point in the province of Ragusa and barely an hour from Siracusa by car, bus or train. The 12km of sand and dune are the obvious attraction for sun-lovers. The blue sea with its calmness in the morning and wildness in the afternoon is perfect for the casual floater and the experienced swimmer. Sand, sea and sun. A Blue Flag beach since 2002, Pozzallo is a supreme seaside town, but that would only tell part of the story. Five minutes tells the real story. The beach is five minutes from the apartment, the centre of town is a brisk five minutes walk, and if you know the way the railway station is also a five minute walk. Everything is close. In five minutes you can, from the local shops, buy fresh fish, fresh vegetables and herbs and fruit, fresh pasta, fresh meat and if you want supermarket food it's round the corner, up the hill to the main road - in five minutes. If you don't want to move a muscle, you can buy all kinds of food and essentials from the roaming street traders. You'll hear them before you see them. You want an ice cream? It's less than five minutes to the nearest gelateria. And, just before you go to bed, if you want to see the sun set, the new esplanade (the pride of Pozzallo) is a stone's throw away. This is the great appeal of this apartment, which in itself is a good advert for Pozzallo and a credit to the landlord, who is always helpful. Sparsely furnished with just the essentials, clean and airy, marble tops and wooden tables.
