The Sicily region
Modica is set in the hearth of the charming Iblean Baroque area (Noto, Ragusa Ibla, Scicli) and its Old Town center is rich of Churches and noble mansions which witness its glorious past as a County.
The place is linked by a motorway to the airports of Catania Fontanarossa and Palermo Punta Raisi and offers a wide range of one day cultural trips: Taormina, Etna Volcano, Siracusa, Agrigento, Marsala, Segesta, Piazza Armerina.
At a distance of 15 km, catamarans to Malta Iland are available from the port of Pozzallo: it only takes a 90 minutes trip!
The Modica / Rocciola area
The Villa is placed in an area very interesting both in terms of natural attractions and cultural venues.
Seaside with wild golden sand beaches is at 15/20 kilometres from home (Sampieri, Santa Maria del Focallo, Maganugo, Marina di Modica.
The location is also very close to Ragusa Ibla, Noto and Scicli: together with Modica all these towns have been acknoledged as UNESCO patrimony for the baroque art and architecture.

I travelled with my husband and 3 children to Modica after staying at Taormina the week before. The villa was indeed set in sub tropical well maintained gardens accessed via large impressive iron gates, and we were met immediately by the lovely owners of the adjacent larger villa. Don't let the fact that it is next to the owners villa put you off...the villa is very private and there was hardly ever anyone else at the pool which at approx 15ft was pretty big for a private pool. The villa was clean , well equipt and modern, Modica was a small beautiful town with a fantastic ice cream parlour and several great restaurants. The beaches at S.M. Focallo (just east of pozzallo) consisted of miles of golden sand and hardly anyone there. I loved this Villa and Modica, not to mention the fact as it is off the beaten track and the prices locally are halved compared to rather more 'touristisy' prices at Taormina. I would definately come back and have no trouble recommneding the villa and its location....we have wonderful memories of being there. |
