The Devon region

The South Hams of South Devon is an area of exceptional beauty and contrast with river estuaries, rolling hills and thatched cottages surrounding the lovely old towns of Dartmouth, Totnes, Kingsbridge, Salcombe, Modbury and Ivybridge and pretty villages that abound in the South Hams district of South Devon.

Modbury

The little towns of Totnes, Dartmouth and Kingsbridge are all within easy reach of Colmer.

They are full of character with delightful shops, restaurants and waterside hostelries. Local delicacies include Dart Salmon and wide range of local cheeses, all of which can be washed down with a glass of wine from the local Sharp ham vineyard.

The many South Hams beaches include Bigbury-on-Sea, from where you can reach Burgh Island on foot or by sea tractor.

Beaches:-

Bigbury Bay

is the nearest beach, when the tide is out you can walk to Burgh Island which is most attractive

but don't worry to get to the Island when the tide is in you just pop on the water tractor.

Bantham Beach:

As well as fine golden sand Bantham Beach also has rock pools and sand dunes making it an ideal beach for all the family. Facilities available during the summer include a life guard, toilets and first aid, there is also disabled access and a pay car park.

Apart from the beaches which there are many there is also, Woodlands Theme Park and Pennywell Farm for a perfect day out with the children.

But don't miss the Aquarium in Plymouth or The Ferry trip from Dartmouth to Totnes and back on an old fashioned steam train.

Eating out:

You don't have to cook as there are numerous restaurants to chose from: The nearest is The California Inn just 100yrds from the cottage so you don't have to drive.

The Ship and The Anchor at Ugborough, The Ship in Noss Mayo and The Dolphin in Newton Ferrers are particularly good.
