Home description
Delightful self contained apartment taking the entire upper floor of a detached villa. Set in a large secure garden, the house is situated in a very pretty, quiet village, Mandaljena (which is approximately halfway between the airport and Dubrovnik Old Town itself, approx 10 km from each). The village sits in a beautiful valley which slopes gently down to the bay of Mlini, some 2 km away, where there are some of the best beaches in the Dubrovnik Riviera.
There are numerous excellent bars, restaurants and shops within 2 kms of the house. Food and drink is relatively simple but tasty and excellent value. There is a regular bus service to Dubrovnik which is some 10km (15 mins) away. The view of the Old Town as you drive along the coast road is truly stunning, and when you get there you will discover why it is regarded as one of the finest mediaeval cities in the world.
There are regular ferry services from Mlini bay to the Old Harbour of Dubrovnik and also to the nearby resorts of Cavtat, Lokrum and to the other Elaphite Islands.
The waters of the Adriatic are wonderful and by mid summer the water temperature can easily reach 23/24C. Jacque Cousteau described the Adriatic as the best sea on the planet. The local beaches are gently sloping so are perfect for children and splashing around, with lots of great snorkelling. There are local diving schools if you want to take full advantage of the crystal clear waters.
The Croatian people are very warm, hospitable and very English friendly. Virtually everyone speaks English as it is the main foreign language taught at school, so you will have no problems in making yourself understood or in getting around.

The Dubrovnik Riviera/Islands region
At the Southern tip of Croatia is Dubrovnik, the "Pearl of the Adriatic", whose centuries-old buildings and city walls girdling the city are like a fairy tale apparition. . The history of the Dubrovnik area is fascinating. For centuries the city has flown a flag bearing the word "Libertas" (freedom) and for centuries it was the major gateway for trade between East and West Europe. Today Its role is as a tourist Mecca together with the hundreds of picturesque places on the coast and the islands.
The Old Town is crammed with historic buildings and magnificent artwork left by renowned sculptors, painters and architects. Just as worthy of a visit are the smaller places like Ston on the Pelješac peninsula, Korčula, Župa dubrovačka, Konavle or Trsteno as in Dubrovnik itself. The end result is one of todays most impressive places on the Mediterranean.
Mlini / Srebreno area
The Dubrovnik Riviera is a long series of beautiful bays and harbours with hundreds of enchanting islands dotted along the coastline. The crystal clear waters of the Adriatic are set against a stunning backdrop of mountains and lush vegetation.
Within 2 km of the house is Mlini Bay, one of the finest in the whole region. The local beach at Srebreno is a great place to spend the days playing in the sea, taking the sun, relaxing in the bars and restaurants or walking the coastal footpaths. There is no need to travel any further to have a wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable holiday. If total peace and quiet are what you need then laze away the time in the delighful grounds of the Villa with its large garden and vine-shaded terraces.
If culture is what you crave then the Old Town has it all. Fabulous architecture, history in abundance, music festivals, theatre all set in one of the most stunning mediaeval settings imaginable. Alternatively take one of the numerous ferries to the islands - the voyage itself is more than worth the fare - where you will find lovely beaches, great restaurants and bars and tranquility amidst stunning scenery.
