VILLA MERTIZA renovated in 2007 is a quiet Hotel with studio's and two-rooms apartments. All situated around a beautiful garden. All rooms are very complete, colourfull decorated and have a balcony with good furniture. Renovated bathrooms with showercabins and warm water 24 hours a day.

VILLA MERTIZA is situated in MIRTOS, a cosy village, with good facilities, but without mass tourism! The Cretan people at this part of Crete are very friendly. There is a good beach with sunbeds and umbrellas, a boulevard with a wide choice of restaurants and kafenions. We offer possibilities to make walking trips, we can give advice for trips by car or motorbike. On request we serve a very good breakfast in our garden; a tastefull beginning of the day.
The prices on this Website are prices for a studio per week. (So not per person). Prices for a two rooms apartment on request.

The Crete region
MIRTOS is situated on South East Crete, near to Ierapetra (12 km), the most southern city of Europe. It has a sub-tropical climate, because of the protection of the Dikti Mountains. That means a lovely temperature also in spring and autumn. A sea breeze takes care for a nice temperature in summertime.
The East part of Crete is more unknown, but beautiful, with high mountains, nice villages in the mountains and at the sea side, with good beaches.
Near Mirtos there is a wide choice of walking trips, with or without a (English, German and Dutch speaking)guide. The Sarakina Gorge (5 km) is an adventure! But there are much more gorges on East Crete.
East Crete has a lot to offer when you want to make smaller or larger daytrips, like the Crissi Islands, Agios Nikolaos, The island of Spinalonga and Kritsa. But also trips to the interesting beaches of Vai, Xerokambos and Kato Zakros. More to the west we can advise to make a daytrip to the old Minoan Settlement Faestos in combination with a visit to the former hippy village of Matala.
And don't forget to visit one or more interesting Monasteries all over East Crete.
Mirtos area
In summertime some restaurants or kafenions in Mirtos organize an evening with live Greec music. The city of Ierapetra offers every summer a festival with well known Greec singers. In the mountain villages of Riza and Mithi, near to Mirtos, you can enjoy the atmosphere of music and dancing, when famous Cretan Lira players come to play. In June there is a classical music festival in Makri Gialos.
Mirtos has a small watersports centre with boats, water bycicles and waterski's.
How to get there
There are charterflights from all over Europe to HERAKLION. From Heraklion we can arrange a taxitransfer or a car. We work together with Car rental office PRIMA TOURS in Ierapetra. All cars are ful insured and have free kilometers. In Mirtos is an agency from Prima Tours to hire a car for one or more days

Further details indoors: There are als studio's and more apartments in Villa Mertiza. All these rooms are completely and colourfull decorated. We have very good beds with bed covers. The bathroom has a toilet, a shower cabin and a fitted basin, both with hot water 24 hours a day. (new in 2007). The doors and windows are fitted with double glass.
Further details outdoors: All the furniture on the balconies or terraces are of a good quality, so no plastic chairs and tables. All the rooms have a view on the garden.

VILLA MERTIZA offers individual assistance by renting cars, motorbikes and mountainbikes. We help to reconfirm flights and give assistance in case of emergencies. For individual wishes we try to find possibilities. In certain parts of the year groups are very welcome. We can offer transfer by busses, from and to the airport and for daytrips. We can arrange hosts and give assistance to make an interesting programm.
