Le Rosier (gite)

Home description

Le Rosier is part of a typical Lauragais farmstead set in 12 acres of grounds and woodlands. It has shared gardens with a swimming pool which has spectacular views of the Pyrenees to the south and the Montagne Noir to the north. It is a great place to relax and unwind.

There are plenty of activities on your doorstep such as mountain walking, cycling, caving, water sports, fishing, horse riding or just want to soak up the fascinating history of the Cathars. It is also ideal for artists as the light in this area is exceptional.

The Midi-Pyrenees / Ariege region

Historic towns such as Foix, Castelnaudary, Narbonne and Toulouse, ancient castles, the canal du Midi, the great vineyards of the Languedoc- Roussillon, crystal clear mountain rivers, fantastic gorges, amazing caves, ( including the Grotte de Lombrives, the longest cave in Europe ) high rugged mountain peaks and not to forget the azure Mediterranean, all make this region of France so exceptionally fascinating and beautiful.

For bird-watchers and wildlife enthusiasts, the region offers an incomparable rich diversity of fauna and landscapes and if you are seeking an active sporting holiday, there is more than plenty to do! Mountain walking, canoeing and white water rafting, fishing, golf, horse riding and superb cycling country.

Mirepoix / Villautou area

Each Monday morning Mirepoix (pop 3000) boasts one of the best markets in the South of France where you will find exquisite local cheeses, wines, sausages, bread and locally grown fruit and vegetables.

This market is not to be missed! Get there before noon as at midday the market shuts and everyone heads for one of the cafe bars for an aperitif before a relaxed al fresco lunch. This medieval ‘Bastide’ is a true gem, and a great starting point for discovering the treasures of the Aude and Ariege and further afield.

How to get there

To drive from the northern channel ports it is motorway all the way leaving the A61/E80 either coming from Toulouse or Carcassonne at Castelnaudary from which we are 25 km.

We are in easy access to Carcassonne, Toulouse, Perpignan & Beziers airports which have the budget airlines - Ryanair & Easyjet who fly from most airports in the UK. Ryanair also flies to Dublin and Shannon on a regular basis from Carcassonne.
All the airports have car hire companies such as Hertz, Europcar,Alamo & Avis.

- Living room with sofa bed ( 16.5 x 13.3 ft / 5 x 4.1 m)

- Twin bedroom ( 11.5 x 10.5 ft / 3.5 x 3.2 m). Adjoining fully tiled W.C./Shower room (6.6 x 5.6 ft / 2 x 1.7m)

- Double bedroom, including sofa bed, with timbered ceiling. ( 18 x 11 ft / 5.5 x 3.3 m)

- Adjoining fully tiled W.C./Shower room ( 7 x 4 ft / 2.2 x 1.2 m)

- Ample storage space

The gite is set in 12 acres of grounds and woodlands. Here, you will discover unspoiled and magnificent countryside which is perfect for walking, cycling and horse riding or just taking it easy with a glass of wine by the poolside.

There is an abundance of wildlife, especially birds - 42 different species were spotted this summer in an area of woodland close by. The beautiful views, the serene tranquillity, the clean air and friendly ambiance makes visitors soon feel de-stressed and re-energized.

We have a small herd of Alpacas (called Asterix, Basil, Graham and Ringo) which graze in the meadows and 2 horses which can be used for local riding ( experienced riders only).

The gite is an ideal base for exploring this wonderfully rich and diverse region of France. For food and wine lovers, the region offers a spectacular variety top quality produce and excellent restaurants and for sports enthusiasts the choice is endless.

There is ample room for parking.
