Le Tournesol is part of a typical Lauragais farmstead set in 12 acres of grounds and woodlands. It has its own secluded gardens with a shared swimming pool over looking the rolling countryside. It is a great place to relax and unwind. The small herd of alpacas are unique to this area and we also have 2 horses which are available for riding for experienced riders only. The gite is a perfect base for exploring this fascinating area which offers interesting cities and towns. vineyards, fantastic markets especially Mirepoix which hosts the largest market in the south of France, Cathar castles, incredible caves and endless sporing activities.

The Midi-Pyrenees / Ariege region

Mirepoix / Villautou area
Each Monday morning Mirepoix (pop 3000) boasts one of the best markets in the South of France where you will find exquisite local cheeses, wines, sausages, bread and locally grown fruit and vegetables.
This market is not to be missed! Get there before noon as at midday the market shuts and everyone heads for one of the cafe bars for an aperitif before a relaxed al fresco lunch. This medieval ‘Bastide’ is a true gem, and a great starting point for discovering the treasures of the Aude and Ariege and further afield.
How to get there
To drive from the northern channel ports it is motorway all the way leaving the A61/E80 coming from either Toulouse or Carcassonne at Castelnaudary from which we are 25 km.
We are in easy access to Carcassonne, Toulouse, Perpignan & Beziers airports which have the budget airlines - Ryanair & Easyjet who fly from most airports in the UK. Ryanair also flies to Dublin & Shannon on a regular basis from Carcassonne. All the airports have car hire companies such as Hertz, Europcar, Alamo, Avis.

Further details outdoors: There is an abundance of wildlife, especially birds - 42 different species were spotted this summer in an area of woodland close by. The beautiful views, the serene tranquillity, the clean air and friendly ambiance makes visitors soon feel de-stressed and re-energized. There is a table tennis table next to the patio of the gite The swimming pool was completed June this year. It is an oval shape 9.4m x 4.75m and a depth up 1.60m. it is shared with the owners.
There is ample room for parking.
