About the home

This delightful 14th Century townhouse is set in an enviable position in the heart of Mirepoix. You can walk out the front door and take in the delights of the beautiful square, surrounding pavement cafés, restaurants and the colourful market , which is held each Monday morning & is said to be one of the best in South West France. There are numerous fetes throughout the year to enjoy as well as visiting the local Languedoc vineyards.

Visitors can explore the Cathar castles, go trekking by foot or horse through the mountains or even climbing and bouldering. The lakes and rivers offer windsurfing, sailing, canoeing, fishing & white water rafting.

The beautiful Mediterranean beaches are just over an hour away. In winter the nearest ski slope is 45 mins drive and a little further there are the larger resorts of Ax-les-thermes and Andorra, where you can do some duty free shopping too.

The house has four large individually furnished bedrooms, 2 doubles, 1 twin & a large suite which sleeps up to 4 people. All bedrooms have en-suites bathrooms. A large lounge overlooks the vibrant market square. There is also a dining room, fully equipped kitchen & laundry room.
The house has central heating throughout & also a traditional logburning stove for Winter lets.

Further details outdoors:
The house does not have its own garden but immediately outside the door is the pretty & vibrant town square with it's famous medieval "couverts" and wonderful pavement cafés where you can relax & watch the world go by. Seating is also available in the Abbey garden which is just at the rear ofthe property.

The house can be also be rented on a chambres d'hotes/B&B basis with rooms from 75 euros to 95 euros per night which includes full continental breakfast.

Conditions

A deposit of 25% of total price is required to secure bookings, with the balance plus a 200 euro security deposit payable 6 weeks before holiday start date. The security deposit will be returned within 7 days of holiday end date providing the property is left in an acceptable condition.

The Midi-Pyrenees / Ariege region

The area has something for everyone all year round. It is great for winter and summer sports as well as being one of the most historic areas in France and not forgetting those sumptuous wines of the Languadoc, Corbieres and Fitou.

Winter can see some snow on the lower grounds as well as higher but days tend to be fresh, bright and sunny. Summer temperatures are often around 78 - 80 degrees.

The Mirepoix area

There are numerous festivals through the year, some prominent ones are the Jazz fete, Medieval fete, Marionette fete and one of the best the Fete de la Pomme.

There are set vineyard trails to follow or you can make your own way round. You will always be sure of a warm welcome and tasting is free with no pressure to buy.

The area has many medieval castles hosting their own events, generally in the summer, one of the best is the firework display in Carcassonne on Bastille day.

Puivert lake offers a superb alternative to the beach and is just 25 mins away.

There are some lovely night markets through the summer offering traditional French foods and hand made products.

Ryanair to CARCASSONNE (35mins) PERPIGNAN & MONTPELLIER 1hr20mins) and BARCELONA (2hrs), Easyjet/ BMI/ Jet2/ BA/Air France to TOULOUSE (1hr).

Ferry to northern France and drive down (6hrs from Paris).

Ferry from SANTANDER (Spain) takes about 4hrs.

TGV and in summer the overnight sleeper/car train.
