Home description
On entering the house via a small hallway you are standing in a large dining room. There is a rustic sideboard used for table linen and cutlery, and an old Jacobean dresser that holds crockery and glass ware, and a dining table. A high chair can be provided. In the opposite corner stands a French jelly cupboard that doubles as a larder. A large log burner stands in the fireplace and if lit in the morning will heat the entire house in the winter months, without the need to use the central heating radiators in the bedrooms.
The kitchen area is well equipped with gas hob, dishwasher, microwave, french oven, toaster, kettle, double sink, and fridge/freezer. There is also plenty of preparation surface (a rare find in most French houses) and lots of pots pans, crockery, glassware and cooking utensils for up to 8 people. Leading from the dining room you ascend an elegant elm staircase that leads to a large roomy lounge with vaulted ceiling and original beams. The TV is satellite. There is also a DVD player, we have a selection of films but please feel free to bring your own. An electric coal effect fire gives a warm glow for spring and autumn evenings and will give extra heating if required in the winter months.
On this level you will also find a large double bedroom with king size bed and two single bedrooms, where all divans are 3ft 6ins wide. The three bedrooms share a large bathroom with twin basins, corner bath and separate shower cubicle. The toilet is separate and there is also a laundry/linen room with a washing machine, dryer, ironing board and iron situated next to the bathroom. Either of the single rooms may accommodate a guest bed if needed.
The mezzanine level off the Dining Room is accessed from the staircase. Here you will find a double bedded room with an en-suite bathroom that has a wash basin, bath with shower over and bidet. There is also a separate toilet on the mezzanine level. We can provide a single guest bed suitable for children under 14 years of age, we can also provide a travel cot but ask you bring your own cot linen. The outside terrace catches the sun before midday and retains it well into the early evening. The patio is well equipped with furniture and a barbecue for your convenience.

The Midi-Pyrenees / Ariege region
For several years we have spent many happy holidays in France exploring the different areas of the Midi Pyrenees and Haute Languedoc looking for a perfect retreat. We eventually settled on the borders of Ariege and Aude in the sleepy village of Manses. The area offers the contrast of the magnificent backdrop of the Pyrenees with the fortified bastide hilltop villages and the miles of lowland fields filled with sunflowers. Steeped in history this area is Cather Country and their legacy is everywhere.
Mirepoix / Manses area
Mirepoix has bustling and colourful markets on Mondays, Limoux on Friday, and Carcassonne on Saturdays. For the more energetic head to the Pyrenees for walking and cycling holidays. Sailing, water sports and swimming together with the nearest beach can all be found at nearby Lac Montbel.
Relaxing strolls through some of the best vineyards in France of Minervois and Corbieres for the wine lovers amongst us makes the area of universal appeal. Follow the route of the Cathars and explore their tragic history by climbing the famous Montsegur. For Grail enthusiasts a trip to Rennes le Chateau will leave you trying to solve it's secrets and mysteries. What was Berenger Sauniere trying to tell us?
In the winter there are various ski stations within an hour's drive. Bonascre lies at the top of the mountain in Ax-les thermes, Mont d'olmes ski area is within 30 minutes drive and for the more adventurous Andorra beckons. The mediterranean beaches of Beziers, Narbonne and Perpignan are within 1 hour and a drive of 2/3 hours south will find you in the exciting Spanish city that never sleeps - Barcelona.
