The Midi-Pyrenees / Gers region
Anyone looking for a taste of the "real" France should make their way to Gascony! With long, sultry summers you can enjoy evenings al-fresco, either in a local restaurant or in the comfort of the farmhouse's garden.
The region is rich in natural beauty - with picturesque lakes and sandy beaches who needs the sea? This means that the area is also great for those watersports enthusiasts and keen fishers. Hikers can explore a landscape peppered with verdant forests, gentle hills, fields and rivers.
Be sure to sample the regional cuisine- you won't be disappointed! Whatever you choose to do, you will come away from Gascony feeling truly refreshed.
Mirande / St Michel area
The surrounding area is heaven for anyone interested in history. It is very close to the beautiful I2th/I3th century Bastide towns; every village is an unspoilt treasure. Auch is a delightful cathedral town, with lots of atmosphere, nice cafes and shops. Nearby shopping is in the pretty little town of Mielan or, for the supermarket, Mirande is ten minutes away. The region's cuisine is exceptional, as you would expect, and excellent value. Foie Gras is the local speciality! The famous jazz festival at Marciac takes place in August and should not be missed!
For something a little different, then skiing is just over an hour away, or maybe even venture out to Spain! Pau and Lourdes are just over an hour away too.
Closer to home there are lakes for boating and a golf course within easy drive. This is a great area for cycling and horse riding is available in the village. so this is a perfect location for lovers of the great outdoors!
