Our lovely house is located on a large piece of land with oak, cedar, and pine trees and a field of flowers bordering a stream in the southeast corner of the Luberon Mountain range in the heart of Provence.
The ancient hilltop village of Mirabeau with its famous chateau is just a mile away. It is strategically located in the Durance River Valley between Aix-en-Provence and Manosque, near the intersection of Four Departments, the Vaucluse, the Var, the Bouches du Rhone, and the Alpes de Haute Provence. The grounds are landscaped with flowers, herbs, fruit trees, terraces, and swimming pool (with alarm and lights).

The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Vaucluse region
Mirabeau is located just a couple of minutes from the Durance river and its valley extending South towards Aix-en-Provence (20 miles away) and north to the snow-capped Alps where it finds its source. Marseille, its beaches, airport and high speed train station are conveniently just 45 minutes away.
Some of the most spectacular beaches on the French Riviera including the Callanques of Cassis-Marseille are less than an hour drive away. We're only 9 miles from Pertruis, 14 from Manosque where all amenities and great shopping and outdoor Provencal markets abound.
Mirabeau area
Mirabeau Centre is within easy biking or walking distance (@1 mile) and exemplifies Provencial village life with its own café with outdoor terrace, bakery, butcher shop, post office, pharmacy, 2 little grocery stores, doctors, dentist, chiropractor, tennis court, petanque court, medieval church, chateau and village houses.
Quite a few good films were shot in Mirabeau. Our two favourites are "Jean de Florette" and "Manon des sources (Manon of the Springs)" directed by Claude BERRI, from a Marcel Pagnol story staring Gerard DEPARDIEU, Emmanuelle BEART....
The recent film "A Good Year," based on Peter Mayle's novel, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe was shot in the Luberon, mostly around Bonnieux and Ménerbes about 25 miles from Mirabeau. "Swimming Pool" was also shot nearby in Lourmarin and Lacoste

Further details indoors: There are two adjoining living rooms (over 500 square feet) with two period fireplaces, large screen plasma TV, DVD, and surround sound home cinema system. Double glass doors lead to the terraces above the stream. The dining room centres around a custom-built teak and bluestone table that comfortably seats eight. The eat-in kitchen is fully-equipped with all new or modern appliances and overlooks the terraces and pool. There is an adjoining laundry room and separate pantry with a freezer, outdoor shower.
All three bedrooms are large, equipped with writing desks, chairs, antique armoires, bedside tables and lamps, double or queen-size mahogany or cherry beds, etc. The entire top floor is a master bedroom suite with large separate bathroom with a huge round tub. The mezzanine has an antique baby grand piano, pull-out double bed, writing desk, shelves, and antique walnut armoire.
Further details outdoors: There are almost 2 acres of land along the brook with oak, pine and cedar trees, a field of sunflowers, lavender and poppies, and terraced herb and flower gardens surround the pool (@30x15 feet). For your safety the pool is equipped with an alarm and night lights.
A number of tiled and stone terraces surround the house (similar to a bastide provencal). The terrace leading to the kitchen and a few steps above the pool is covered, sheltering a teak table and chairs comfortably seating eight, as well as a barbecue grill and side table. The tiled stairs lead to the stone terraces surrounding the pool and gardens. They hold 8 lounge chairs.
To the side of the pool is a terrace overlooking the stream with a white oval table and 6 chairs. There is another terrace just outside the living room area with a small table and 2 chairs. Just outside double glass doors in the living is another terrace overlooking the stream with a small table and chairs. Exercise equipment are available upon request.
Further details
A payment of half the total rent is due in order to hold your reservation. The other half is due 30 days before your arrival. A security deposit of 900 euros is due one week before your arrival by check or in cash the day you arrive.
Conditions
In the summer and the early Fall the entire house and grounds are available for your exclusive use. Begining the 6th of October 2007 through the end of April 2008 only the principle part of the house will be available for rent. That part includes 3 bedrooms and 3 baths on 3 floors, plus the main living room with fire place and insert, dining room, kitchen, laundry room, pantry, terraces, pool, gardens, woods along stream etc.
During the summers 2007 and 2008 and all summers for the foreseeable future the entire house including the 2nd living room and the mezzanine will be included in the rent. In the late Fall and winter 2008, i'll be staying part of the week in the small section of the house and realizing a couple of projects on the grounds. I'd love to have neighbors staying next door during those times and would be happy to serve as a free tour guide, travel and project consultant for any of our guests interested in such services, in order to help visitors better discover this fabulous part of the world.
