About the home

Maison D Or was originally a wine-makers house and built around 1850. It has been superbly renovated, decorated and furnished to provide a modern, stylish and comfortable holiday home yet in keeping with the exposed stone walls and beams.

This 2-storey property has a large open plan living/dining room and kitchen area of 90 sq.m., and a covered summer kitchen area of 20 sq.m.

There are 4 bedrooms, one bathroom and two shower rooms with high quality fitments and furnishings. One of the shower rooms is on the ground floor.

Outside is a covered terrace area for relaxing with a drink or dining on warm evening, a mature garden and a private swimming pool, secured by an alarm, and a barbecue.

The property is located towards the edge of this 'get away from it all', quiet, attractive village with an excellent wine 'cave' and pizzeria. Within a 10-15 minutes drive, there's a choice of supermarkets, boulangeries, bars and restaurants in Olonzac, St Marcel sur Aude and Bize Minervois.

Having 4 bedrooms and 3 bath/shower rooms, the property lends itself to a large family, or a group of friends holidaying together.

Living Room: A large open plan room with lots of windows letting in the light. Comfortably furnished and nicely presented with a sofa and armchairs, a games table, a coffee table, and a TV receiving mainly French channels and a DVD player.

Dining Area: This has a large dining table and seating for eight people.

Kitchen: Fitted modern kitchen with hob, oven, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, fridge, freezer, hoover, ironing board and iron. This leads out to the summer kitchen and terrace.

Exterior covered terrace: A 'summer kitchen', a table and chairs for dining and a barbecue.

Bedrooms: There are 4 in total all on the first floor - three have double beds and one has twin beds. In this area, there is also a large spacious landing.

Bathrooms:There's one bathroom with a bath, two shower rooms and 2 separate WCs. One of the shower rooms is on the ground floor. All are well appointed and nicely styled.

Further details outdoors:
Outside: Is a private, mature garden with a gravelled terrace and attractive planting; an olive tree, lavenders etc. Sun-loungers, a parasol, and comfortable garden chairs and garden furniture are provided.

Swimming Pool: The private swimming pool is 3.5m x 7.5m and is secured by an alarm. The pool is normally open from May to the end of September.

Parking is on the quiet road outside the property.

Further details

The owner requests a damage deposit of €600 on arrival. This will be refunded to you at the end of your stay, less the replacement cost of any breakages.

Bed linen and towels are not included in the rental cost but can be provided on request at a charge for bed linen of 10 Euros per bed/ per week and towels 5 Euros per person/per set/per week - you can pre-reserve the bed and bathroom linen and pay on arrival - or you can pay us in advance.

End of stay cleaning. This is INCLUDED for you in the rental price.

In the winter 500KW of electricity is included in the rental cost. If more is used a charged is made based on your metered consumption.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region

This part of the Languedoc has a sunny Mediterranean climate. It can be hot in summer, but the temperature is often tempered by a breeze. Now the 3rd most visited region in France by British people, the Languedoc offers something for everyone. Miles of long, sandy beaches, coastal lagoons, vibrant cities such as Narbonne and Montpellier, historical sites such as Carcassonne and the Cathar castles, fabulous scenery, great cuisine and vineyards, vineyards, vineyards.

The Minervois / Pouzols area

Set on a sunny hillside in lovely countryside, Pouzols is a small, tranquil and interesting village associated with wine-making. It has a 'cave co-operative' and a pizzeria. The church of St Saturnin is of particular interest, built in the 11th and 12th centuries in Roman style. The beautiful, undulating countryside around Pouzols offers the opportunity of lovely walks and bike rides. Get up early and you can see the sun rise over the Pyrenees. Shops and supermarmarkets are within 10-15 minutes drive.

It's a fantastic area for fishing, horse-riding, wind-surfing, sailing, diving and other water sports. The Mediterranean beaches at Narbonne-Plage and Gruissan are only a 35 minute drive away. At the more local Lac du Jouarres (15 mins by car), you can also walk, fish, swim and windsurf.

For sight-seeing days out, there's a lot of choice. Wine-tastings are available at many of the local chateaux and domaines. Spend a day seeing the medieval city of Carcassonne with its fantastic walls and towers. Visit he remains of the Cathar castles, go and visit the lively city of Narbonne with its famous indoor market hall. From there drive over La Massif de la Clape and visit the coastal resorts of Gruissan and Narbonne Plage. And don't miss the olive oil mill called the 'Oulibo' just down the road at Bize-Minervois.

Other shops, supermarkets and restaurants can be found nearby in Olonzac, St Marcel d'Aude, Bize-Minervois and Le Somail. There's a weekly market on a Tuesday morning in Olonzac.

By Car: The village of Pouzols-Minervois lies just 20kms from Narbonne. The nearest motorway junction is No: 25 (Lezignan Corbieres) on the A61 Autoroute des Deux Mers. By Air: Carcassonne and Beziers Airports are the nearest both about 45 minutes drive away - serviced by Ryanair from the UK, Belgium and Ireland. You can also fly into Montpellier and Perpignan - both about an hour's drive, or Toulouse - 1 hour 40 minutes. By Train: The nearest railway stations are Narbonne and Beziers.
