The characterful house, with vaulted sitting room, well equipped kitchen/diner and additional garden room, is situated within the outbuildings of the chateau. The large Mediterranean garden offers ample space for outdoor living, with three separate terraces. Although set in the outbuildings of the chateau, the property has been updated and newly equipped this year and provides all that is required for a comfortable stay.

The property is ideal for those exploring the area, with its beautiful scenery, extensive historical interest and those seeking the peace and quiet of the Canal du Midi and its surroundings. Situated between the wine making areas of the Minervois and Corbieres, it provides ample opportunity for sampling and purchasing. We are pleased to accommodate those interested in birdwatching and cycling and can give much personal advice on the best places to visit for both these activities.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

Argens Minervois is situated in the Department of Aude in the Languedoc Roussillon Region of France - the Region that is described as the 'Cinderella of the South' in the Lonely Planet Blue Guide 2009. Being only 40 minutes from the Mediterranean coast and tucked between the Minervois and Corbieres hills, there is something for everyone.

There have been settlements in this Region since prehistoric times. Subsequently, the Greeks, Romans, Moors and the Cathars all have added to the character of the area and its people, and the wealth of history to be explored.

This ancient settlement is on the banks of the Canal du Midi, a World Heritage Site, and approximately half way between the Roman city of Narbonne and Carcassonne, another World Heritage Site and the second most visited place in France.

Minervois

The village nestles on a gentle hilltop, surrounded by vineyards of the Minervois wine-growing region and with far reaching views of the Montaigne Noire, the Corbieres hills and, in the distance, the Pyrenees.

Amenities in the village include a general store, bars, canal side summer restaurant and two wine producers (domaines). Argens is a recognised canal-boat port (bassin) and a popular stopping off point for provisions for canal boaters.

The nearest town, Lezignan-Corbieres (wine making capital of the Corbieres wine region), is approximately three miles away and has a wide range of good food – with a large weekly market - clothes shops, supermarkets, banks, Office de Tourisme, theatre, cinema and station (see Travel).

For those who do not wish to use a car more than necessary, the Canal du Midi, situated only yards from the cottage, provides an excellent focus for walks or bicyle rides to the neighbouring wine producing villages. Alternatively, you may wish merely to sit and relax on its banks, enjoying a lunch time meal at one of the many Canal side restaurants in this or the neighbouring villages.

Birds and nature - The village is situated on a main European bird migration route and the natural surroundings provide a variety of habitats for a great diversity of flora and fauna.

Walking and water sports - With the Canal du Midi on the doorstep, the Mediterranean beaches and lagoons only 40 minutes drive away and rivers and fresh water lakes nearby, there is an exceptional choice of all levels of activity - a gentle stroll, mountain climbs, swimming, kite and wind surfing, canyoning and canoeing, are just some examples.

Wine and food - Need we say more? Visit our website to read more.

Ideal for cyclists - From the holiday cyclist to the serious club member, all find enjoyment in this area. The Canal towpaths, the serious climbs all await. We welcome cyclists for full holiday bookings or simply a stop over on a long tour.
