About this location
The Somerset region
Nestled in the south west corner of England, Somerset is a county famous for it's rolling hills, dramatic moorland and picturesqe villages.....and of course it's cider! It's rich in history and packed full of places to explore from caves and cliffs to castles and abby's, historic villages and bustling towns to ancient woodland and sandy beaches and not forgetting Exmoor National Park. Popular with visitors from all over the world, Somerset has much to offer. Why not come and see for yourself?
Little Knapp is set in the middle of the vally stretching between Minehead and Porlock on the very edge of Exmoor, far enough away from both Porlock and Minehead to feel the space but close enough to enjoy the conveinence. Porlock lies 3.5 Miles to the west and is a very popular village with tourists, it's 13th century Inn is amoungst the oldest in the country and Porlock Weir is home to an ancient harbour with imeasurable charm. www.porlock.co.uk
On your way to Porlock, Selworthy is a National Trust village just off the main road and well worth a visit. You'll probably catch a glimpse of it's unusual white church if you drive or walk around the surrounding area. Selworthy green is a very photogenic patch of little yellow thatched cottages all owned by the National Trust one of which is a very busy Tearoom. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/holnicote-estate
The twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth lie a further 12 miles from Porlock and the journey is just as breathtaking as the destination. Climb the legendary Porlock Hill and you'll have conqured the steepest road in England! Then follow the pictureesque road over Exmoor clinging to the coast revealing views of the moor that are rarely beaten. Lynton and Lynmouth it's self is beautiful, plenty to see and do including the victorian cliff railway and mysterious vally of the rocks. www.lynton-lynmouth-tourism.co.uk
The seaside town of Minehead is 2.5 miles to the east of Little Knapp and is home to 3 major supermarkets as well as many other amenities. It boasts a beautiful sandy beach with all the traditional British seaside treats at hand plus a Butlins Holiday Resort which is open for day visitors if the children need tiring out! The town it's self is a pleasant place to wonder around during the day and has a good selection of great places to eat and drink both during the day and evening. www.minehead.co.uk/?
If you continue east out of Minehead within a few minutes you can head into the neighbouring village of Dunster, a medieval village with a picture perfect high street and it's own castle watching over it. Dunster is a must see destination for any visitor, the castle is part owned by the National Trust and is open to the public. You can easily loose a day or two wondering around Dunster taking in the history and stopping off for re-fueling in one or two of it's pubs, resturaunts, coffee shops and tea rooms. www.visitdunster.co.uk/

"Felt like home as soon as we arrived"
Lovely cottage, beautifully decorated and bigger than it looks in the photos. Set in a quiet lane with amazing views out of the kitchen window. It had everything that we needed (we especially loved the homemade scones) and the huge log burner was heaven sent on a cold, wet February day.
