The Argyll and Bute region

Scotland is a great destination for a city break at any time of year. Edinburgh has much to offer like the architecture, history, culture, as well as superb shops, restaurants, bars, cafes and night-life.

Edinburgh is also one of Europe’s most beautiful cities and offers a wealth of attractions to interest our visitors: From Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood palace at either end of the famous Royal mile in the medieval Old town to the Georgian elegance of New town. There is much to explore in this wonderful place.

Millport is the only town on the small island of Great Cumbrae, just offshore from Largs on the Ayrshire coast. The town curves around an attractive hilly bay on the south coast of the island.

The town possesses Britain's smallest cathedral, the episcopal Cathedral of Argyll & the Isles, which was completed in 1851 to a design by William Butterfield, an enthusiastic member of the High Church Oxford Movement and one of the leading Gothic revival architects of the day, responsible for several high-profile buildings such as Keble College, Oxford.

Had to rent property for three nights although just needed it for two.The view from the lounge window was beautiful but unfortunately due to damaged glass in the front bedroom it was difficult to see through. On arrival we were disappointed to find the property tired and in particular two of the bedrooms that reminded me of youth hostels 30 years ago. There was not a set of matching plates, glasses or cups, the shower door in one bathroom was broken and the other shower took an age to drain, the skirting in one of the bedrooms was hanging off. I immediately called the letting agent to raise my concerns. She told me that as it was near the end of the season things would look grubbier but that she would send a local handy man out and could we be at the flat at 5pm. I explained that we were on our way to eat but we would go back to the flat and wait. We waited for two hours but no one came. After an hour I tried phoning the contact at the agency but there was no reply and no answer machine to leave a message. I really felt as if we had been duped as there was no other way for me to get in contact with them until Monday three days away. I called the agency when we returned home only to be told that they thought we had got good deal for our money and that the handy man had called but we were not in. As you can appreciate I do not like the insinuation that I am a liar and if there was a problem could the handyman not have called us as they had our mobile number. I then again contacted the agency and asked them to pass on my concerns to the owner of the property. I received a reply via e-mail stating that there had been a mix up and that the handyman had called at the wrong property no mention was made of our other complaints.

This property is one of our most popular in Millport. It is well appointed and modern and is very clean. We have never had any complaints about this property apart from this one. We feel the comments are unfair and unfounded. Please don't let this review put you off. The photographs of this property speak for themselves.
