Newly refurbished Mediterranean style villa set into the wooded slopes of Black Rock, Millendreath, a picturesque Cornish Valley. Overlooks the sea and opposite hillside.The brick built villa which has been cedar clad, is located approx 150 metres from a sandy beach, in a sheltered south facing suntrap valley. A very mild climate through to winter, offering 3 night breaks out of summer season. Comfortable modern living. 2 compact double bedrooms, both with double beds. (Bed linen hire an optional extra at £15 per double bed. Please ask if required). A new light oak kitchen. Lounge with sea and country views. Under floor heating for cooler weather and an air exchange unit providing constant clean air into the property, (Ideal for asthma and hay fever sufferers and purifying air from pet odours). Fully double glazed. Parking is in the private car park in the valley approx 100 metres away after unloading at foot of villa steps. It is gated with pass code on exit. Although 2 bed roomed, the villa is compact and ideally, it is best suited to couples.There are 63 steps up to the property, please take this into account before booking. Thank youThere is a new beach front café for the summer months, serving breakfasts, drinks, snacks and meas. Licenced bar. Please check Black Rock Beach Cafe on facebook for updated opening times as they tend to open the 'Cornish' way...sporadically. Great 'Foody club' nights and Sunday lunches. Booking advised. These franchises are changing hands, opening times cannot be guaranteed during your stay. Sorry.There are no amusement arcades and only a tiny seasonal shop in the valley, If you want hustle and bustle, Millendreath is not for you, however Looe is a hilly 1 mile walk away and has them and also numerous restaurants.There are coastal paths, countryside and woodland walks from the valley, ideal for dog walkers and ramblers. Dogs allowed on beach From October to March all day, March - Sept before 10am and after 6pm. However, (at any time of year) at low tide you can take your dog down the jetty and go over the rocks to the beautiful East beach, where there are no restrictions. It does get cut off, but is accessible for several hours making it very quiet. (Don't forget to get back before the tide comes back in, or walk along to Seaton and alternatively return by coast path!). Millendreath beach is small when the tide is in, but also has a jetty from which to fish or enclosed bathing at high tide. PLEASE NOTE: There has been ongoing refurbishment of the valley since 2011. Some noise or disturbance may occur during your stay which is beyond our control. Great rates and discounts for return visitors during this time. p.s. The worst of the disturbance was in 2012 during building demolition. Please check out our reviews, no one appears to have been affected to date.

Beach front cafe, snacks to alacarte menu. Licensed. Opening times vary, summer season. A great fish and chip shop is at the top of the lane (Coddy Shack) and Londis and Spar shops are 20 minutes walk away in the Barbican. A 25 minute walk along the hilly coast path or road takes you to the busy fishing port of Looe, with its harbour, restaurants, cafes and shops dotted around its narrow and quaint streets. Once the tide is out you can walk to Looe or Seaton/Downdery in the opposite direction. If driving to Looe, the journey is 5 minutes and has ample parking.The Villa is about 150 meters from the beach front.
£15 worth of electricity included per full week, which usually easily covers 1 weeks stay without using under floor heating. Extra cards available on site 7 days a week from £5. Savings can be made by only using the heating when needed.
UPDATE: Meter has been changed to a lower tarrif in 2013 by our landlord/developer so this will make a difference to running costs with heating on. As a guide; on the old tariff, £30 worth was used in a cold autumn week, heating on and dishwasher/washer/dryer/dishwasher/oven in full normal use so a top up of £15 was required. The change over has greatly improved the usage.
You are reminded that there are 63 steps up to the property with a hand rail.

* Dogs are allowed on main beach before 10am - and after 6pm March - September. At low tide you can walk with your dog on a lead, along the jetty and over the rocks to the quiet east beach, be sure to return before the tide comes back in so as not to get cut off. (several hours) Please use dogs bins provided *
There is also a dog friendly beach 5 minutes walk away in the next bay (Plaidy) and Seaton beach 5 miles away (by car) or a 45 minute walk along the beach at low tide and is also dog friendly . The coastal, woodland and Moor walks near by are fabulous for those with or without dogs and many places in Cornwall are dog friendly.
There are laminate floors throughout, except carpeted bedrooms which we ask you keep dogs out of, Thank you.
1 medium sized dog crate is available if required, but no bedding or bowls. (Dogs should not be left alone in the property)

The Cornwall region
Warmed by the Gulf Stream, Cornwall lies on the western tip of England, with Celtic roots and mild climate, it has been a great favourite for holiday makers, with a stunning landscape, wooded valleys to jagged cliffs, and a dramatic coast line with clean beaches provide the perfect holiday destination for all ages. It is the perfect retreat at any time of year.
MILLENDREATH is a small inlet with its own sandy, private beach, 1 mile from the main town of Looe to the West. There is a tranquil air to the place as there is no through traffic. The valley was purchased by Espalier developments. It is being re marketed as Black Rock, Millendreath, with plans to regenerate the valley with eco build holiday homes, swimming pool and spa. £50 million is the planned budget for what will become an upmarket resort. Much improvement has already been completed, there is now a seasonal beach front cafe, toilets and beach showers.
There are coastal walks with breath-taking views in every direction; woodland walks starting from your door and picnic areas in scenic locations.
Millendreath is so secluded you may have difficulty finding it on a map, yet it is so close to some of the best known attractions in the West Country. There is a jetty which provides an enclosed bathing area or fishing platform when the tide is in. There are numerous rock pools and crevices. When the tide is out you can walk along the beach-front, or take a 20 minute coastal path walk or 5 minute drive to Looe where there is ample parking. Being close to the A38 there is always somewhere to explore.
The picturesque fishing town of Looe is situated on the spectacular South Cornwall Coast in a largely unspoilt area of the South West. It has an unpretentious charm and an excellent range of facilities with traditional Inns and cosy pubs tucked away in the pretty narrow streets. Many 15th Century building remain. Restaurants, galleries, cafes, shops and convenience stores are found in this quaint fishing village. There is ample parking in Looe.
Families love to fish for crabs from the quayside.
A variety of boats can be hired including a ferry or glass bottomed boat which will also take you around Looe Rock (St Georges island) Try a spot of fishing for yourself, deep sea shark, conger or mackerel are are in the area. Dolphins and seals are also often seen.
The coastline in this region is stunning and is accessible by the scenic Cornwall South Coast Path. You can walk to the neighbouring fishing village Polperro,(5 miles) where you will find a smaller version of Looe with its quaint working harbour, pedestrianized streets and fabulous gift shops, galleries, good selection of pubs and restaurants.
Looe hosts a range of events including sailing regattas, Looe music festival, carnival week and even a duck race! New Year at Looe is made really special with the whole town celebrating in fancy dress and fireworks at midnight off the beach. It is among the top 10 English destinations to be at New year!
You may wish to explore the Eden project, 25 miles from Millendreath, combined with the Lost gardens of Heligan (approx same distance) or The beautiful old fishing port of Mevagissey is 27 miles away and even the North coast towns of Newquay and Padstow are within one hours driving time at 37 miles from your villa.
Other amenities close by include horse riding, Shire horse centre, rock climbing, kayaking, snorkelling, scuba diving, sea and course fishing and the Monkey sanctuary (10 minutes walk). The Lux Park Leisure Centre indoor pool in Liskeard (15 mins) has water flumes – a popular outing for families.

Myself and my partner stayed at the sea view hillside villa and what an amazing time we had. The villa is perfect, all mod cons and so comfortable and stylish. It's positioned in a small bay and the views out to the sea are amazing, as are the vies in the other direction of the countryside. It's a perfect retreat and myself f and my partner can't wait to return there!!

"Another fabulous stay"
Booked direct with Karen after visiting the previous year. Fantastic communication on all accounts. We arrived late at night (10pm), and she had kindly arranged to have the outside lights on and the heating on in the lounge. There were four of us visiting, 2 adults and 2 chocolate labradors. 63 ish steps up to the front door and you reach the apartment. It is very contemporary with a couple of leather settees in the lounge and free view tv with dvd player. Fully equipped kitchen with washer/dryer, dishwasher, oven, hob, fridge, freezer. Two bedrooms, double and twin, with amazing sea views from both the master bedroom and the lounge. Large patio outside, again with amazing uninterrupted sea view. Bathroom with electric shower over bath. Heating costs were approximately £4 a day in winter, this included keeping one radiator on in the lounge 24 hours a day, extra radiator on in the lounge in the evening, bedroom heater on morning and night, also the washer/dryer was used once. Extra electricity cards can be purchased 24 hours a day from one of the chalets. We actually had snow/sleet and hail while we were there, and we were warm enough. You could of course put the underfloor heating on, but this can be a bit costly and we didn't need it. We walked to Looe along the beach (a bit of rock scrambling and 30 mins or so), to Seaton (just over an hour if you go up and over Looe Hill), we also visited Mount Edgecombe Park by car. There is a lot of work going on the site, and its going to be amazing by the time its finished, and probably a lot more expensive, the work men were not intrusive in any way and we only heard them when we were out and about and even that wasn't noisy. The beach is very close by with a cafe (not open in January) and is dog friendly off season all day long, I believe there is a 10-6pm ban of dogs during the summer months. Few places to recommend: Coddy Shack for fish and chips (5 mins drive); Mount Edgecombe Park for an amazing walk in a fantastic location and a cream tea at the end (30 mins drive ish); Smugglers Inn at Seaton is very dog friendly (even damp-ish dogs allowed); great baked potato at Ye Olde Saluation in Looe (again dog friendly). Aldi and Morrisons at Liskeard (about 8 miles away); couple of Co-ops in Looe. Top and bottom of it... Would I recommend, Yes... Would I visit again, Yes.

"Definitely a Sea view!"
What a great place to stay if you want exercise, relaxation, a place to read and let the world go by. Everything is lovely in the property with very good supply of essentials for self catering. Cosy and comfortable with amazing views from the balcony which would act like an extra living space in the warmer months. Had a great few days.

"Quiet, Peaceful location well positioned for exploring many places of interest"
A fabulous location for those seeking peace and quiet, but well situated for walking into Looe or for driving to other towns, villages and tourist hot-spots. The apartment has fantastic sea views overlooking the small bay and is furnished with every possible need. There is a very large balcony that is well equipped with a bbq, tables, chairs, lounges and cushions if needed. The owner was extremely helpful from the initial enquiry right through to our arriving back home at the end of our stay. In my opinion the apartment is very comfortable for two people and would suit a couple or a small family. The bedrooms are snug but comfortably furnished for a holiday, one of them looks out over the bay from the bed - such a treat to wake up to! For me the experience would have been perfect had the bed and sofa's been more comfortable. There was a restaurant just moments from the apartment that we were not able to use as it was, I imagine (nothing posted on the property to advise otherwise), closed for the season? We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and would return again.

I have also amended my details, letting guests know that the café appears to have more sporadic opening times than in previous years. The lovely Cornish people have a laid back approach to opening and closing times! More recent guests have said the café was actually open some days during their stay! The view is wonderful. Very peaceful and relaxing the walks are well worth it. Definitely need walking shoes. Will be booking again.

"Perfect peaceful base to explore this part of Cornwall. We loved it."
Well equipped, spotlessly clean accommodation in a peaceful location. Great views from the terrace, the owners even provided binoculars which were great for looking out to sea and for spotting deer on the hillsides. You definitely need a car to explore the lovely seaside villages of Looe, Polperro and Fowey. You can walk to Looe but need to be reasonably fit for the SW coastal path's ups and downs. Hope to return one day.
Glad you enjoyed your stay. A car is essential if you wish to explore Cornwall. There is a train station in Looe, but like you say, it's a hilly one mile hike! Thank you for your review, you are very welcome back.

Great villa with great amenities and Karens information pack was superb. Great walks for the dog. Looe superb and the fish and chips at the coddy shack to die for. You need a good set of lungs and walking shoes for the steep hills but we'll worthwhile the effort.
Made me smile. Thank you. The Looe area is very scenic and hilly, but no pain, no gain. As I have mentioned, this is not the holiday for everyone, but for views, walks and peace and quiet it is the place to be. We are happy to welcome you back for your winter break.

"Fantastic place to stay"
We had a really great time, well worth the visit. The accomondation was clean and to a very nice standard. The views over the bay were lovely, great place to explore beach and rock pools will definitely be going back soon.

"Wonderful sea view, spotlessly clean, excellent value for money !!!"
This has got to be THE BEST holiday villa we have ever stayed in. It had excellent facilities, a sea view to die for and was very affordable. We had a slight problem prior to arrival which the owner was quick to inform us about and offered a discount when we book again - which we most definitely will be doing. There are 63 stairs to climb to the villa but it is worth it. There is lots of parking and easy access to the beach which although small is more than adequate. The villa is ideally situated to explore around the area. This truly was a little gem of a find.

"Fabulous Short Break"
Stayed for a short break Thurs-Sunday at the end of January. Fabulous communication between ourselves and the owner from beginning to end and even during our break. Great small apartment, would recommend for couples though even though it has two bedrooms. Quite a few steps up to the front door, not a problem if you are relatively fit. Fabulous patio that overlooks the sea. The interior has been modernised and has everything you need for a great holiday. Two sets of patio doors, one from the lounge and one from the bedroom from which you can see the sea whilst having your early morning brew. Electricity is by card, I believe the first card is included. One thing to note though is that the underfloor heating does take up quite a lot of electricity, we used about a tenner on the first day without realising. After that we turned off the underfloor heating and put on the oil filled radiators, still plenty warm enough, but the electric cost came down to about £4 a day (dishwasher, radiators, kettle, oven and hob all being used). Walked to Seaton (about an hour) and to Looe (about 30 mins), enjoyed a meal at the Coddy Shack - excellent (see separate review), Zute Bar - excellent (see separate review) and a terrible meal at Golden Guinnea (see separate view). Would I recommend this place, in a heartbeat.
Thank you so much for the great review for January. We didn't quite expect the popularity of our winter breaks, so are now providing alternative heating. We are fitting low energy wall heaters for both bedrooms but will keep the storage heaters in addition. The under floor heating remains as a little luxury for those who want it in the lounge, kitchen and bathroom.
