Cottage | 6 bedrooms | sleeps 12
mile from Millbrook and mile from the big sandy beach at Whitsand Bay is Tregonhawke Farmhouse, the origins of which go back to the 16th cent.. It has been a family home for generations and has survived much turbulent history. To one side is a very pretty enclosed garden with large lawn, table/chairs, barbecue. Mature trees and farmland surround it and about 300 yards away there is a coarse fishing lake (carp, tench, roach, rudd, bream and perch some as large as 25lbs!). Fishing free for residents.
Inside, a lovely roomy family home. Access from the garden to porch (for coats/boots, tumble drier, freezer) to big fitted kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, washing machine, microwave) with table/chairs/benches in the middle; equally big living room with open fire, TV/DVD; across a slate-floored hall, a childrens room with lots of toys, leading through to a downstairs double bedroom with door to garden; bathroom (suite) and separate loo.
From the hall, stairs up to five more bedrooms a double plus single, a double, a twin with 56 lintel, another twin, and a single all very individual and prettily done. Upstairs, two bathrooms (suites, one with shower over bath). Beach parking available in owners' field above Whitsand Bay, by arrangement. Damages Deposit 250. A smashing home-from-home.

About this location
The Cornwall region
South Cornwall: between the river Tamar and river Fowey and south of Bodmin Moor is inland Cornwall at its most gentle and lovely: deep, wooded valleys (including on Bodmin Moors southern edge) between sheep and cattle-grazed fields; tidal creeks (exceptionally pretty Lerryn is on one of them). Most of it is delightfully by-passed by main roads.
On the coast are long sandy beaches (Whitsand Bay), high headlands and sandy coves at the foot of cliffs (Lantic Bay) to walk to, two of Cornwalls loveliest cove villages (Kingsand, Cawsand) and a classic fishing village (Polperro). From Looe - river-mouth fishing village/resort with sandy beach - you can fish and sail. Round here Daphne du Maurier lived and wrote. A branch line railway chugs pleasantly from Liskeard to Looe. Dont miss the Musical Instrument Museum near St Keyne. Just to the west is Cornwalls star modern attraction, The Eden Project, worth a once-a-year visit into the future indefinite, and Lanhydrock, a very lovely National Trust house and garden. Beyond them begins the extraordinary and spectacular china clay country, good for a visit (excellent museum). You should go to Cotehele beside the Tamar, too, and Calstock for the messing about in boats activity.
Millbrook: old village (pub, shops, children's park, lake) at the head of a creek off the river Tamar (boating/birdwatching), a mile from the sea at Whitsand Bay and Kingsand. Cremyll (good pub) and fine houses at Mount Edgcumbe (impressive gardens) and Antony (Nat. Trust), 3 miles. From Cremyll, pedestrian ferry to Plymouth (theatre, shops, entertainments), or 7 miles by car ferry.
