About this location
The Paphos District
Paphos has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. It was a centre of the cult of Aphrodite and of pre-Hellenic fertility deities.
Aphrodite's legendary birthplace was on this island, where her temple was erected by the Myceneans in the 12th century B.C. The remains of villas, palaces, theatres, fortresses and tombs mean that the site is of exceptional architectural and historic value. The mosaics of Nea Paphos are among the most beautiful in the world.
The village of Miliou is one of the smallest villages in the Paphos district with a population of approximately 60 persons. The village participates in the Laona Project which aims to help the agro tourism on the island.
In Miliou there is the old monastery named Ayii Anargyri which has now been converted to a spa, perfect for a visit when not relaxing at your villa. The area is popular for the mineral springs. The center of Polis is 15 minutes drive, Paphos Town is just 20 minutes drive and the nearest beach is 15 minutes drive away.
Visitors can enjoy long walks in the nature and taste many fruits from the trees in the area. If you are interested in spending your holidays in a place connected to the beauty of nature this village is ideal for you.
The area of Polis is the principal town for the northwest region. This traditional town, huddled around a pedestrianised square is a great place to browse the many shops, enjoy a coffee watching the world pass by or dine at any of the wide selection of restaurants, tavernas and cafes which radiate out from the centre.
The town has an archaeological museum and cultural centre. There is a beach of coarse sand and shingle beach backed by tall Eucalyptus trees. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for hire and a restaurant/snack bar can provide refreshments.
Along the coast from Polis is the seaside resort of Latchi with its recently opened 200 berth marina. Here you will find an array of inviting sea-front tavernas with a superb selection of fresh fish and seafood served daily.
Just beyond Latchi you will find the well known 'Baths of Aphrodite' and for nature lovers the protected Akamas Peninsular an area particular suited to walkers and adventurers who can explore the many criss-crossed nature trails. The coastline of this area can also be enjoyed by boat with daily excursions available from the marina.
Paphos Town once the capital of the island is now included in the official UNESCO list of cultural and natural treasures of the world's heritage. The remains of villas, palaces, theatres, fortresses and tombs mean that the town is of exceptional architectural and historic value.
The well preserved mosaics and the Tombs of the Kings is probably the biggest cultural draw with further archaeological discoveries continually being made. Pano Paphos on the cliff is the main administrative centre and residential district while Kato Paphos, by the sea, is the main tourist area built around the harbour and medieval port. More modern entertainment facilities in Paphos include shopping facilities, markets, a Waterpark, bowling alley and the Paphos Bird and Animal Park with its daily parrot shows.
