The Paphos region
Paphos Town once the capital of the island is now included in the official UNESCO list of cultural and natural treasures of the world's heritage. The remains of palaces, theatres, fortresses and tombs mean that the town is of exceptional architectural and historic value.
The well preserved mosaics and the Tombs of the Kings is probably the biggest cultural draw with further archaeological discoveries continually being made. Pano Paphos on the cliff is the main administrative centre and residential district while Kato Paphos, by the sea, is the main tourist area built around the harbour and medieval port.
More modern entertainment facilities in Paphos include shopping facilities, markets, a Waterpark, bowling alley and the Paphos Bird and Animal Park with its daily parrot shows.
The Miliou / Giolou area
The village of Yiolou is a small rustic village in the Paphos district and is approximately 35kms from Paphos and only 12kms to Polis Town. From the villa you can stroll 200m up to the village where you will find a bank, two local coffee shops ‘kafenions' where locals gather to socialize and chat covering everything from village gossip to political discussions over thick, strong coffee and maybe a game of backgammon.
A little further on at 400m there is a Café that provides sandwiches, hamburgers and pancakes, further on by another 100m is small supermarket. The emphasis on a holiday in this village is rest and relaxation.
The area of Polis is the principal town for the northwest region. This traditional town, huddled around a pedestrianised square is a great place to browse the many shops, enjoy a coffee watching the world pass by or dine at any of the wide selection of restaurants, tavernas and cafes which radiate out from the centre.
The town has an archaeological museum and cultural centre. The nearest beach from the villa is here in Polis and is a coarse sand and shingle beach backed by tall Eucalyptus trees. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for hire.
Along the coast from Polis is the seaside resort of Latchi with its recently opened 200 berth marina. Here you will find an array of inviting sea-front tavernas with a superb selection of fresh fish and seafood served daily.
Just beyond Latchi you will find the well known 'Baths of Aphrodite' and for nature lovers the protected Akamas Peninsular an area particular suited to walkers and adventurers who can explore the many criss-crossed nature trails and for the more adventurous explorer the protected Akamas Peninsular with its many walking trails.
The coastline of this area can also be enjoyed by boat with daily excursions available from the marina.
