About this location

The Lombardy region

Lombardy is the most populated Italian region, with over 9 million people. It is located in North-West and the land is mostly flat (47%) and mountainous (41%).

In the south flows the longest Italian river, the Po, which has as its other major tributaries of rivers such as the Ticino, Adda, Oglio and Mincio. In the foothills of the Alps arise several lakes, the largest is Lake Maggiore, Lake Lugano, Lake Como, Lake Iseo, Lake Garda and Lake Hydro (the largest in Italy).

The main peaks reach almost 4000 meters, in the Bernina Group (Pizzo Zupo 3996 meters, the highest point is located in Switzerland). Almost the entire border with Switzerland and Trentino-Alto Adige is mountainous and is bordered by Lepontine and Rhaetian Alps.

The regional capital is Milan, the main economic and financial center of Italy. Considering the urban agglomeration is the city with more inhabitants (4.3 million pop.) And is also the most industrialized. Other major cities are Brescia, Bergamo, Monza, Como and Varese.

Lombardy is the richest Italian region from an economic standpoint. The soil is very fertile Po Valley have prompted the development of highly profitable agriculture, which uses advanced cultivation. Are the main crops of cereals, fruits, vegetables, wine grapes and fodder. Breeding is focused on cattle and pigs, with all products (milk, butter, cheese, meat).

The industry has developed in all major sectors, particularly those metal, steel, textile, chemical, petrochemical, food, publishing, footwear and furniture. The tertiary sector has developed in parallel to industry. Tourism is concentrated in the living areas and mountain lakes and in some cities (Milan, Bergamo, Pavia and Mantua).

Milan is a city that must be lived at all hours. From dawn until sunset always offers something to do! And on the morning when you wake up, to enjoy a cappuccino with foam and cocoa, the day continues with a walk through the numerous shops in the centre. Between a window and the other, numerous art galleries display their innovative creations of established artists and emerging.

Time flies between art and accessories, it is already time for lunch! All the "bars" offer fast menus for all tastes: from the most sought-bistro in the gallery, until White trendy bars, Parco Sempione.

In fine weather is pleasant gardens to stop for a coffee, a little 'sun and chatting with friends. And the afternoon is to be decided: an exhibition at the Triennale Palace or Royal? Perhaps it is better to take a tour of the library of the center, there are ancient, but also modern. Some are decorated to a design and eating corners where you can stop for a snack and browse through others where ancient books.

In the evening it's time for "happy hour", a ritual all over the Milanese. There is plenty of choice in the area and the style: trendy, alternative, visionary - creative, management! And then the night is illuminated by the lights of show business and entertainment.

The Theatre opened the curtain. From the opera "La Scala" and the cabaret Zelig "Arcimboldi", the evening continues between the spaces of the limelight: a classic dinner "Savini" or in a restaurant with creative cuisine. Finally, for those still awake, a thousand clubs and gathering places, where to dance, laugh and leave the day behind.
