Fuengirola
Has seven kilometres of beautifully kept sandy beaches, one of the longest promenades on the Costa del Sol. Fuengirola is a paradise for sun worshippers and water sports enthusiasts alike.
The coastal town offers a wealth of facilities and entertainment including a zoo and water park . It has one of the most popular markets on the coast every Tuesday attracting regular visitors from other neighbouring towns and villages. It is the last stop train route that takes you directly to the airport and the centre of Malaga. The fabulous Parque Miramar shopping centre and multi -screen cinema.
Beaches
Mijas
Cala Mijas is the first beach, la Butibamba Beach, extends up to Cala Mijas Beach
Cabopino
An old fortified watchtower still stands by the sand dunes alongside the beach. From its priviledged position it is possible to see all along the coast to Marbella and Gibraltar and Africa beyond, a spectacular backdrop for a spectacular beach. Cabopino is well sheltered and protected from the elements. Lifeguards are on duty throughout the summer - combined with the beach's gentle slope into the sea, make Cabopino child-friendly and safe. The sands are well maintained. Chiringitos (beachside bars and restaurants) are plentiful here and are renowned for their excellent quality.
Mijas Golf
There are two popular 18 hole courses located here, Los Olivos and Los Lagos
Los Olivos
The main feature which distinguishes this course from The Lakes is the abundance of trees – hence the name – and its smaller size, as well as fewer water hazards. The greens are smaller, undulating and well defended.
Los Olivos is a course best suited for players gifted with a higher technical ability and precision in their game.
Los Lagos
With its 6,367 metres, this course is the longer of the two which comprise of Mijas Golf. Los Lagos is a ground course with wide fairways and a few forest trees obstacles, but is defended by many bunkers and nine lakes, from which the course gets its name and which easily trap the ball.
History of the area.
Islam from its arrival 711AD, would constitute a prodigious period for this part of the world AL Andalus. For a long period of time the Cordoba Caliphate was the most sophisticated state in Europe. For eight centuries, the Moors brought new agricultural techniques, botanical and scientific knowledge, poetry and intellectual development. A visit to Granada and Cordoba are well worth it.
The Christian monarchs in northern Spain took advantage of its political decay, accelerating the Re-conquest. Cordoba fell in 1236, followed by Seville in 1248. The Kingdom of Granada was the last bastion, conquered by the Catholic Monarchs in 1492. That same year, Columbus set sail from an Andalusian port, Palos in Huelva province, to discover America.
The history of Andalusia in more recent times is linked with a convulsive 19th century, which began with the War of Independence and the passing of the first Spanish Constitution at the Court of Cadiz in 1812. Attempts at modernisation and industrialisation, massive exploitation of mining resources, spectacular increases in exports of wine and olive oil are the most noteworthy factors in an economic situation which resisted change and remained anchored in agriculture.
Spain has an historic and artistic heritage. Each town has it's own local festivities, Spanish cuisine which features top quality produce.
Not to mention the olive, Orange and lemon Groves.
We can arrange for you to harvest olives in the first week of November! (Days may change)
Ronda, Moguer, the forests of fir trees, Cadiz, Moorish castles, the palaces, Úbeda... And the flamenco music.
Home to Malagas favourite son Picasso a visit to the museum in the City is well recommended.
The Malaga tour bus is a must!
The Mijas Golf / Pueblo Mijitas area
Great country walking direct from the apartment with flora and fawner and spectacular views.
The night skies are fantastic for any Astronomer or someone with a passing interest in it.
The two local golf courses are on your door step with many other golf courses a short drive away.
A visit to the beautiful white village of Mijas is a must for any stay in this area.
In the 1960s when the first tourists came to Mijas, the tourists would see the workers coming back from work on the fields with their burros. The tourists fell in love with the burros and would ask the workers to let them take their pictures and take rides with them. After that the tourists would give the workers some money. The workers soon found out that they were making more money with their burros giving the tourists rides than working on the fields, so they decided to have the burro taxis. Today there are around 60, and Mijas is known worldwide for its burro taxi rides.
Mijas Costa is at the heart of the sunny Costa del Sol and boasts sea, sun, tennis, golf, horse-riding, horse-racing, superb countryside, blue flag beaches and a great climate. There are excellent restaurants with superb food and prices everyone can afford, and there is always a warm welcome here - especially for children. With 6 miles of beaches this is the perfect quiet holiday spot for sun-worshippers being well away from the hustle and bustle of the main resorts. Mijas Costa is a residential area with superb restaurants and the sort of good nightlife that families will enjoy. For golfers this area has the lot with some of the best courses in Europe including the famous Valdarama.
