The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
"La Cala" as this charming village is affectionately known to local residents, lies on the Costa del Sol in Spain approximately 25 minutes drive west from Malaga International Airport. The long beaches are well cared for, clean and soft golden sand. On these pages we attempt to introduce you to the village, its services and the surrounding area.
Whilst La Cala has maintained a level of the real Spain it has also taken on, in a small way, something of an international flavour. You will find banks, doctors, lawyers and dentists equal to those in the UK or any part of Europe. This has helped to make the area a first choice for many wishing to retire away from the harsher climate of Northern Europe. Medical care is first class - the new Costa del Sol Hospital is no more than 15 minutes in the direction of Marbella. English, German and French daily newspapers are in the newsagents each morning before 9am.
We have an abundance of good quality sports and recreation facilities both in and around La Cala de Mijas. The tennis club "Club del Sol" welcomes all comers as does the Lawn bowls centre at Miraflores. There are gymnasiums, dive centres and virtually every outdoor activity within minutes of the village. Of course special mention should be given to our competition standard golf courses at La Cala and Mijas Golf, Santana Golf and El Chaparral - these courses are available to non members, tuition is available and equipment can be hired.
Horse riding in the hills behind La Cala is a must if you enjoy this activity but if your interest in horses is strictly as a spectator, then the Hippodrome may well be for you. Recently built, the "Hipodromo del Costa del Sol" is just on the outskirts of La Cala and makes for a great family night out.
Mijas Costa / La Cala de Mijas area
The Area: The Mijas Hippodrome is a well kept secret and boasts a riding school and huge race course. During the year there are many race meetings and the various bars and restaurants offer additional entertainment. Set slightly back from the coast, the area offers an ‘away from it all’ holiday, but is within a 5 minute drive to both Fuengirola and La Cala de Mijas. The drive to the airport is just 20 minutes. The Miramar shopping centre in Fuengirola is just five minutes away and offers all of the popular shops, Mango, Zara, Dunnes Stores, as well as multi cine and various restaurants.
You are sure to enjoy the wide range of good quality restaurants available right here in the village or scattered in every direction close by. Ranging from the most simple to the most expensive they include Italian, Indian, Chinese, Thai, French, plus of course a wide choice of Spanish restaurants anxious to display their culinary talents. Restaurant prices are very low in this part of Spain when compared with the cities of Northern Europe but the standard is very high.

Further details indoors: Our holiday home away from home is an ideal location for those who would like a quiet environment and peace around the swimming pool, within close proximity to Fuengirola and its night life and shops and near the beautiful fishing village of La Cala de Mijas.
Indoor Facilities: All bedrooms and the lounge are fully air-conditioned, hot/cold. There are additional ceiling fans in all rooms. The kitchen is modern and fully equipped with washing machine, dishwasher, oven hob and microwave oven. From the kitchen you can contemplate the communal swimming pool. Leading from the kitchen is a spacious lounge/diner with double aspect windows and large patio doors, leading to the private enclosed garden. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, comprising one en-suite master bedroom with double bed and large bathroom with 2 sinks and large shower.
Further details outdoors: The house has its own, private garden for dining ‘al fresco’, an allocated underground parking space and right outside a superb swimming pool, which you can look out onto from the kitchen and upstairs bedroom.
