About this location
The Andalucia region
Mijas Costa is situated in the heart of the Western Costa del Sol and just 35 kilometres from Malaga International Airport. It has a varied landscape that goes from the mountains all the way to the sea. It lies 10km from Fuengirola in the direction of Marbella (25km)
Below the town are many of the most popular resorts on the Costa del Sol
Cabopino: (3-5 mins drive)
Cabopino and Cabopino beach are situated on the coast, halfway between Fuengirola and Marbella. Miles of beautiful sandy beaches with water sports, fishing and boat trips. There is also a pleasant harbour and renowned restaurants. Cabopino is one of the Costa del Sol's best kept secrets.
Marbella: (10 mins drive)
One of the most delightful promenades on the Costa Del Sol, with its classy restaurants and bars overlooking the beach front. A visit to the Orange Square will bring you to a host of street restaurants in the old part of Marbella.
Puerto Banus: (15 mins drive)
Mega rich yachts, world famous fashion shops, Casino, shopping centre, top beaches and spectacular views make this place special.. The nightlife is buzzing with numerous Bars & Restaurants overlooking the marina. Hire a yacht and go out into the Mediterranean
Benalmadena: (30 mins drive)
A lively resort with its beautiful sandy beaches & a spectacular promenade 2km long. Visit the Marina Plaza, often described as Covent Garden on water. Other attractions include the Tivoli World theme park.
Mijas Pueblo: (20 mins drive)
One of the prettiest villages in Spain, this traditional village has breath taking views. Take a donkey ride to explore the charm of this village on the famous. Also lookout for the Mineral water spring at the entrance to the village
Ronda: (50 mins drive)
Ronda is truly a spectacular village, famous throughout Spain for the plunging river gorge which divides this enchanting village. Ronda also has the oldest & most beautiful bullring in the whole of Spain.
The Mijas Hippodrome, ( a racetrack) is situated a few km's from Riviera which has meetings every week and includes lots of entertainment around the course. Anyone visiting Mijas will of course want to wander through the beautiful, whitewashed mountain Pueblo to enjoy the spectacular views.
There are numerous organised trips to Morocco, Gibraltar Rhonda etc available to book within the village area
If you want to explore further afield there are many car rental agencies that will allow you to pick up a car at the airport and leave it there once finished. In the retail complex is a hire car company called Fetajo which I would recommend as they are very competitive with good quality cars and no hassle petrol wise. They will rent cars for your entire holiday or for just a few days. Pick up and drop off at the airport can be arranged.
Gibraltar: (90 mins drive)
Tax free shopping (Don't forget to take your passport along when visiting).
It is a must see visit like stepping out of Spain back into England within 5 minutes!.. Here you have a multitude of English High Street stores and wines, spirits, perfumes and cigarettes are duty free. When you visit Gibraltar, you will find that the people are friendly, helpful and always polite. They are very proud and if you visit on September 10th (National Day) wear red and white to help celebrate and to fit in!
The apartment is a pleasant 25 minute drive from the airport and is situated on one of the lowest parts of Riviera del Sol, so no having to lug shopping back to an apartment high up the steep rise.
It is 5minutes walk to a retail complex where there are two supermarkets and various other shops. There are a number of restaurants and bars around the complex where you can enjoy a quiet meal or a cool drink.
Available but not exclusively:
Bars (with free Wi-Fi)
It is an 8-10 minute walk to the nearest beach where there are more bars and eating facilities. The long sandy beach is well cared for, clean, soft and golden sand with sunbeds and parasols for rental. Max Beach Bar sits right on the beach at Riviera del Sol and offers a lovely view out to the sea. It is a great place to go for a drink in the evening when the weather has been hot as you get the cooling effect of the sea.
The local bus service and a taxi rank are just 6 minutes from the apartment. The buses are very cheap.
The Aztec club is 2 minutes walk from the apartment. In that complex are two bars with snack food, a good Italian restaurant, a gym, a heated pool, sun loungers, mini golf, hairdresser, and tennis courts. On certain days they provide an all inclusive deal with access to the pool and loungers and a full barbecue meal for around 10-15 euros. Watch some of the young kids there play tennis! They will astound you.
There are over 60 golf courses in the province of Malaga (more than any other province in Spain). More than 30 of these are to be found in the 'Costa del Golf' area.
So within 10-30 minutes drive from the apartment you will find several. There is one at Riviera itself not far from the apartment at Miraflores a 10 min walk to the driving range and 20 mins to the Clubhouse.
Calahonda is a 10-15 minute walk. There are a variety of restaurants, shops and bars/ discos, one in Calahonda and one at Max Beach. There are two major supermarkets there one in the main complex and one 100m up the hill. Both are good but the one in the main complex has a very competitive offering of fresh meat and fish with an on site butcher and fishmonger.
La Cala a pretty little town is 5 minutes from Riviera by bus and has over a dozen restaurants and bars There are plenty of things to see and do for a day out. There is a large market each Saturday and Wednesday from early till 14-00.
Fuengirola (10Km) and Marbella (25Km) can both be reached on the local bus if you don't have a car. The beaches in both are magnificent and the array of shops and bars a paradise for shoppers. Both are exceptionally good places to shop for clothes and shoes. Fuengirola has a large market open on Tuesday and Saturday from early till 14-00.
