The Marche/Abruzzo region

The Abruzzo region is the most overlooked and undervalued area in Central Italy. The prices for food and accomodations are between 30% and 70% cheaper than Tuscany and Umbria. Abruzzo has a unique mountain/sea combination, which allows you to ski in the morning and swim in the afternoon!

Daily flights to Pescara with Ryanair provide cheap, easy access to Pescara, Abruzzo and Central Italy. In summer there are flights from New York, Paris, Bruxelles, Moskow, Munich, Barcelona and Toronto direct to Pescara. And it is only just over an hour's drive from Rome to Abruzzo! So flights to Rome are a great way to connect.

The Abruzzo region has a variety of activities.

Water persuits: Sailing, Deep Sea Fishing, Freshwater Fishing, Water Skiing, Wind Surfing and Katermaran

Nature: Termal Springs, Mountain Climbing, Trekking, Walking, Mountain Biking and Horseback Riding.

Winter: Skiing, Snow Boarding, Ice Skating and Paraskiing.

Other Activities: Football Stadiums, Golf, Nightlife and Cooking!

Miglianico: this charming, medieval town is perched on a hilltop between two rivers, the Foro and the Dendalo in the southeast part of the region of Abruzzo. Currently there are just over 4,500 inhabitants, some of whom contribute to the production of the local "Miglianico" wines for which the town is famous.

Lying at 136 meters above sea level, the town offers fabulous views of the mountains and the sea. Sheltered beneath the Majella mountain and near enough to the coast to benefit from the influence of the Adriatic sea, the town is blessed by a microclimate - giving it relatively limited temperature variation throughout the year. Mild winters and warm summers.

Historical Interest:

Miglianico probably dates back to Roman times, but the town would have grown up in the early medieval period around the tenth century castle, which was used by the Normans to defend the Foro valley. The remains of the castle, which was seriously damaged in the 2nd world war, have been rebuilt on and are now inhabited. Even in the later medieval the history of the town is shrouded in mystery as few records remain.

Miglianico Golf Course:

Miglianico boasts a full 18-hole golf course, suitable for both beginners and professionals. Here you can play year round. On site is a swimming pool, a mini market, a restaurant and ofcourse, the ninteenth hole to relax before or after your round. This course will be the site for the 2009 Mediterranean Games in Abruzzo!
