The Hong Kong region
Hong Kong is a gateway to China and Southeast Asia. You can also have a stop over in Macau, Vegas of the Orient.
You don't need a visa to go to Macau. However, you need a visa to go to China. You can obtain your Chinese visa in Hong Kong. It will take about 3 days. So if you plan to got there, it will be the first thing you need to arrange when you arrive Hong Kong.
Since Hong Kong is bordering China, you can also take a day trip shopping in Shenzhen. You can arrange your visa at the Immigration at the boarder too. The train from Hong Kong to the Shenzhen takes only one hour. There is lots of shopping in just one building, you can also enjoy foot massages, facial etc. or have your shirts and dresses tailor made. They will mail to your home country. You need RMB to shop there. However, all these could be done at the money exchangers before crossing the boarder.
Macau, the Vegas of the Orient is a former Portugese colony. You will need to take an hour jet-foil ride and when you arrive, there are lots of eye-blinking casinos. It's a gambler's paradise. MGM, Sands, the Venetian (very huge), their local legend; Lisboa Casino with the most unbelievable architectural design. etc. Other than all these materialism hustle and bustle, the place is very laid back with a lot of Portugese influence. There are many historical sites to visit. too.
You can combine your Hong Kong holiday with a day trip to Macau and another day trip to Shenzhen for shopping.
My apartment is in the heart of the Central Business District. It is easy to travel to everywhere with the Central and Admiralty MTR stations within 15 mins walking distance. There are also lots big public buses and mini buses that take you to both ends of the Hong Kong Island. Kennedy Road is one of the oldest road on Hong Kong Island. It is near the former Governor's House, how the residence of the Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region. The Hong Kong Park and Visual Arts Centre are right across the road. The Peak tram station and the U.S. Embassy is 5mins. walk. While you are only 15 mins walk to the heart of Central, the financial centre of Hong Kong.
There is lot of greenery in the neighborhood away from the hustle and bustle although it is in the CBD.
