Home description

Le Vieux Bourg is a typical Correzien house on three levels recently restored with colourful decoration, nestling in a in a farming hamlet with wonderful views over rolling countryside . It overlooks a picturesque garden with barns and fruit orchard.

Relax on one of the two balconies, both of which lend themselves to alfresco eating. The front balcony has sun from early morning to mid afternoon and seats up to six people.

The door from the kitchen opens onto a smaller balcony/terrace with stone steps down to the beautiful garden. The cherry tree provides welcome shade from this balcony. In the evening sip a glass of wine on the front balcony whilst watching the sun on the ancient barns. Then enjoy a barbecue and views of the Mondiere on the garden terrace which easily seats ten people.

The small market town of Meyssac with all amenities is just 3 km from the house with its twice weekly market of local produce including the best foie gras, walnut oil, fruit and farm cheeses. Neighbouring villages have evening markets with barbecues and dancing. If you enjoy eating out there are many local restaurants with excellent cuisine.

The Limousin / Auvergne / Correze region

Meyssac is in the southern most part of the Correze on the borders of the Lot . The area is steeped in history with numerous hilltop villages and fortified towns . Three of the famous Beaux Villages of France , Collonges La Rouge, Curamonte and Carennac are just a few kilometres away .

The countryside is lush, and hilly with wonderful views The valleys bordering the River Dordogne are lined with walnut groves. Spring has clear blue skies with hot sunshine and this continues well in to the Autumn.


Meyssac area

Meyssac is a small bustling market town and a local centre of attraction with its twice weekly market, displaying some of the finest foie gras and produce in the area. In the summer high season there are concerts in the Abbeys and Churches and the Souillac Jazz Festival is internationally acclaimed.

The neighbouring villages host evening markets and provide BBQs and dancing. The area is ideal for walking and cycling and canoeing on the River Dordogne is a must. You can canoe from Beaulieu sur Dordogne, join the walking groups across magnificent countryside or hire bicycles to explore the countryside. It is perfectly situated for many of France's best tourist attractions.

If you want to venture further afield visit the shrine of Rocamadour and the Medieval town of Sarlat. Lascaux Caves recently in the media because of their paintings are a famous attraction.

The city of Brive with its elegant shops provides contrast to the rural way of life, but don't miss the Saturday covered market which is one of the best in France!

The location is ideal for visiting some of France's most beautiful medieval hilltop villages and towns, the famous Caves of Lascaux, and the picturesque market town of Martel with its seven towers.

If you prefer to go bargain hunting there is always a Brocante or Vide Grenier to view.

1. Cheap flights from Gatwick , Stansted and Southampton (Easyjet/Ryanair/Flybe) to Limoges Airport. Flight under 1 hr.

2. Car hire available at Limoges Airport. Europcar is recommended. Approximately one and half hours drive to the house.

3. Train from Paris to Brive La Gaillarde. Car Hire also available at Brive Train Station. The house is 20 minutes south of Brive Train Station.

Le Vieux Bourg has a bright interior with colourful decoration. The kitchen/ dining area, overlooking the garden , and with its own terrace, is fully equipped and also has a comfortable sofa for relaxing before and after meals.

The lounge which has the traditional Cantou fireplace,leads out on to the terrace overlooking the orchard. The single bedroom/study has a shower room en suite. Stairs lead from the lounge to the two double bedrooms with bathroom.

There are two balconies on the first floor level, from the kitchen and lounge, both with tables and chairs for outside eating and a portable barbecue.

In the garden is a barn for storing wood and another next to the terrace for garden furniture including loungers and sun umbrellas. This can also be used for serving on to the terrace which has a built -in barbecue. The fruit orchard has a bench from which you have a magnificent view of the countryside.


Conditions

A 30% deposit is required to hold the property and full paypment is required two months before the visit. There is a refundable security deposit of £250 to be paid with the final payment. Rental period is Saturday to Saturday 4 p.m. to 10 a.
