The West Country / Cornwall region
With its breathtaking rugged coastal scenery and miles of golden sandy beaches it’s very easy to see why Cornwall, the surfer’s paradise, has traditionally been one of the most popular holiday destination in the UK.
Access into Cornwall is easier than ever, with Newquay airport now accommodating flights from many National and International airports and the main roads have been given a good overhaul its worth seeing what all the fuss is about is about!
Within a short drive there are the rugged jaws of rock at Bedruthan Steps, the Wheal Martyn Museum near St Austell that turns the China clay industry into an exciting adventure trail, Paradise Park at Hayle with its wonderful world of wildlife in splendid Victorian Gardens, Padstow and Rock (more millionaires than anywhere in Cornwall reputedly), Tintagel with its fabulous ruins and Arthurian legends, and the nationally acclaimed Eden Project near St Austell to name but a few.
Cornwall has so many attractions the biggest challenge for any holidaymaker is finding time to fit it all in.
Mevagissey area
Lying at the end of the North quay, the Mevagissey Museum provides an interesting visit. The exhibits are displayed in an old boat-building shed which was once used to build and repair smugglers' boats. On your tour you will see a huge range of historic objects from the village’s history, including tools used in the work shop, historical fishing gear, a Cider Press, manacles, a Cornish Kitchen, Bronze Age artefacts and even a Mevagissey Pound note! There is also a fascinating collection of old photographs that charts the experiences of local people in the 19th and 20th century.
The World of Model Railways situated on Meadow Street is a popular Cornwall attraction, with one of the best model shops in the South-West of England. The exhibitions include an OO gauge Main Layout which has over 30 trains travelling through varied landscapes from a British seaside to an Alpine Winter. The 'Junior Junction' children’s' railway features Hornby Thomas the Tank engine characters and a model circus. The indoor Garden Railway shows how you can transform your own garden to run large scale trains - and you can have a go at driving them yourself!
If you feel adventurous and would like to explore further afield why not take a bus in to St Austell, which has onward bus and train connections on to destinations across Cornwall and beyond. Within the town centre itself there are many places to visit and things to do, from the range of interesting shops, museums and galleries. Why not visit the famous Eden project during your stay? There is a bus service, “The Eden Branch Line”, which connects St Austell station to the Eden Project. This bus service runs six or seven times a day and includes admission to the Project within the ticket price.
How to get there
The West Country is serviced by four regional airports, which are accessible from all over the UK, Ireland, Europe and beyond. Car hire and public transport links are readily available from all four airports. NEWQUAY has the nearest airport to this property. BRISTOL has the South West's largest Airport with car hire facilities and excellent onward transport links.
