The West Country / Cornwall region
Beautiful coastline with dramatic cliffs, spectacular scenery, usually warm and mild, many places to visit, particularly wonderful for gardens which have terrific shows in the spring of rhododrenon and camelia. Exotic plants flourish in the mild climate. Some of the coastline is owned by the National Trust. There are many bays and beautiful sandy beaches to explore. Excellent area for walking - 296 miles of coastal path.
Mevagissey area
One can take the coastal path (the house is 100m from the path) down to the harbour or one can walk through old fishing village streets, where cars cannot go. Restaurants, pubs, gift shops, art galleries, jewellery shops are to be found. Mevagissey is an ideal spot to stay in if you want to visit Heligan Gardens or The Eden Project.
In Mevagissey a little museum, a miniature railway and a small aquarium. Boats for hire or fishing trips on larger fishing craft. Shops supplying tackle etc. A fresh fish kiosk on the quay. Feast week in late June.
5 mins by car to Tim Smits famous project Heligan Gardens, and at St Austell his other venture the Eden Project, 15 to 20 mins by car.
Nearest city is Truro with its many shops and cathedral. Newquay on the north coast for surfing and teenage shopping sprees; surfing championships at Fistral Beach; Watergate Bay................... Numerous gardens and historic houses e.g. Trelissick, Trebah. The Lizard, Lands End.......... We like to visit Fowey, (there is a ferry from the harbour) for art galleries, restaurants and an excellent butcher and some interiors shops. Watersports in Pentewan 2 miles away.
How to get there
By car to Mevagissey (from London, main routes are M4, M5, A30 or A38) or By train - take the Paddington service to Penzance which stops at St Austell (4 hours)
Flights from Stansted to Newquay on the north coast, then :
By train (not frequent) or bus service from Newquay or preferably a hire car (Newquay airport advertise Europcar UK) to the south coast and Mevagissey.

Further details indoors: Our house has been in the family since the 1980's. It is comfortable and clean and has all the space and amenities needed for fun family holidays, Our children have grown up with it. There is an electric shower invaluable for getting the sand off the kids after a lovely day on the beach, towels dry off afterwards on the heated towel rail (absolutely essential with 4 children!). Once they are sorted I absolutely have to sit out on the sunny garden with my cup of tea. I have cooked many meals for my large brood in the kitchen, (but the local pub fare is good too), so you will find a good range of pans, dishes and crockery etc if you wish to cook. For our family, a visit to Winnie's View (named after my mother-in-law) is our way to de-stress and walk the coastal path which is about 200m away leading to Pentewan to the left or down to Mevagissey alternatively you can walk down through the fishermans cottages down Cliff Street on a more leisurely route.
Further details outdoors: A small patio and lawned garden with hydrangea, fuscia, lillies and palm trees.
Hard parking for two cars.
Slope and steps down to the main entrance, steps down to garden.

Guestbook for Winnie's View
Just to say thank you for a really restful week at 'Winnie's View'. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks again.
It really is a lovely house in a wonderful spot. Although the weather wasn't too kind to us we enjoyed the holiday and have totally wound down.
