The West Country / Cornwall region

Cornwall has the mildest climate in the UK. We are very close to the Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Falmouth, and Truro. The famous surfing on the North Coast is within easy reach.
The Mevagissey area
Mevagissey is a unique working14th Century fishing village. In the narrow streets leading off the harbour - craft workshops sit side by side with shops, art galleries, cafes, restaurants and pubs which were once the haunts of Cornish Smugglers.
In addition to the excellent range of restaurants, bistros and pubs, there are also superb takeaway options. The town of St Austell with its range of shops and supermarkets is only 6 miles away, and the beautiful Cathedral City of Truro is about half an hour's drive away.
Mevagissey is the home of the World Model Railway Exhibition with an impressive collection of 2,000 models.
Mevagissey Museum, situated on the East Quay, displays the history of the pilchard industry. Mevagissey was the origin of Pears Soap, and our lighthouse was the first in England to be powered by electricity.
Climbing up through the backdrop of Mevagissey , the visitor can enjoy the full flavour of rich farmland, a river valley and stunning coastal walks. Alternatively, hire bicycles or bring your own to enjoy the local Pentewan Cycle trails.
The world-famous Eden Project is only 6 miles away.
Close attractions include the Lost Gardens of Heligan (2 mile walk) with the award winning Lobbs farm shop.
The Mevagissey to Fowey ferry is a fabulous way to explore the dramatic coastline.
Mevagissey provides the ideal location to take advantage of the famous coastal waters. Deep sea wreck fishing, snorkel safaris, wreck diving, self drive fishing boats are all readily available.
At the end of June Mevagissey celebrates Feast Week and St Peter's day, St Peter being the patron saint of fishermen. The week long celebrations culminate in a fabulous firework display over the harbour
Christmas and New Year are great fun in Mevagissey. Virtually the whole village dons fancy dress for the New Year celebrations and fireworks.

In the middle of Mevagissey (so difficult to park) , lovely , clean cottage with sun trap back yard. Everything you need for comfort and fantastically comfortable king size bed. Broadband appreciated by teenagers too. Well situated for walk to Heligan and along coastal footpath. Would recommend. Response: Thank you for your positive comments...... Myrtle now has her own Harbour Parking Pass, so parking isn't a problem, and just a short walk away. |
Guestbook for Myrtle Cottage
***I will definitely recommend Myrtle to friends, it is a great place to stay and the service we received from my initial enquiry onwards was fantastic, your regular up dates, great pictures and recommendations to the very great attention to detail of the cottage itself, including, after a long drive, the chilled bottle of wine!
***Wow! What a week! We loved your cottage - all so comfortable and clean with so many useful touches. You should be really proud of such a gorgeous place. Thank you for allowing the rest of us the pleasure of using it.
***What a beautiful cottage! A real find. .....I have to say the best cottage we have stayed in.
***Very welcoming - home-from-home. The whole cottage was a delight - oozing with character and thoughtful touches. Will definitey return.
***We already decided that we don't think we'll ever find a cottage as nice as Myrtle and a town as nice as Meva in Cornwall ever again, so we might well be back!
***We hope to come back soon as Meva is a great base for exploring all of Cornwall. Thankyou, Debbie, for all your attentiveness and hospitality - the cottage is gorgeous!
***Delightful! Warm, cosy and tastefully decorated. Shall certainly return --- soon.
