The West Country region
Cornwall has the mildest climate in the UK. We are very close to the Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Falmouth, and Truro. The famous surfing on the North Coast is within easy reach.
Mevagissey is a unique working14th Century fishing village. In the narrow streets leading off the harbour - craft workshops sit side by side with shops, art galleries, cafes, restaurants and pubs which were once the haunts of Cornish Smugglers.
In addition to the excellent range of restaurants, bistros and pubs, there are also superb takeaway options. The town of St Austell with its range of shops and supermarkets is only 6 miles away, and the beautiful Cathedral City of Truro is about half an hour's drive away.
Mevagissey is the home of the World Model Railway Exhibition with an impressive collection of 2,000 models.
Mevagissey Museum, situated on the East Quay, displays the history of the pilchard industry. Mevagissey was the origin of Pears Soap, and our lighthouse was the first in England to be powered by electricity.
Climbing up through the backdrop of Mevagissey , the visitor can enjoy the full flavour of rich farmland, a river valley and stunning coastal walks. Alternatively, hire bicycles or bring your own to enjoy the local Pentewan Cycle trails.
The world-famous Eden Project is only 6 miles away.
Close attractions include the Lost Gardens of Heligan (2 mile walk) with the award winning Lobbs farm shop.
The Mevagissey to Fowey ferry is a fabulous way to explore the dramatic coastline.
Mevagissey provides the ideal location to take advantage of the famous coastal waters. Deep sea wreck fishing, snorkel safaris, wreck diving, self drive fishing boats are all readily available.
At the end of June Mevagissey celebrates Feast Week and St Peter's day, St Peter being the patron saint of fishermen. The week long celebrations culminate in a fabulous firework display over the harbour
Christmas and New Year are great fun in Mevagissey. Virtually the whole village dons fancy dress for the New Year celebrations and fireworks.

"Excellent accommodation and location."
We had a fabulous long break in Myrtle Cottage and can't fault the accommodation which had everything we wanted and more. The owner was very friendly and helpful.
The location was excellent with a walk of 1 minute to the harbour and shops.
The outside patio and decking is an added bonus and I'm sure if our trip had been a little later in the year we would of made more use of it.
The pubs and restaurants all served a good variety of food to suit all pockets.
Thank you for your lovely review of Myrtle. I'm so glad you enjoyed your extended stay in Meva, and look forward to welcoming you back any time! All the very best :)

"A relaxing stay in a lovely cottage"
Last July we had a great stay at Myrtle cottage in Mevagissey.
It was a comfortable family house in a nice area nearby the center with all facilities available. From the living room and kitchen we had a nice view over the village and harbour. The roof terrace was a good place to relax and enjoy the evenings.
Our kids felt at home as they stayed in the piratebedroom. We went fishing for crabs in the harbour, walked the coastal footpath and went mountainbiking.
Our son made a drawing of the harbour and he wrote on it "Mevagissey, if you're looking for a fantastic holiday!". I think that says enough.
Thank you so much for your review. Am delighted to hear that you - and your children - enjoyed Meva and Myrtle so much! Hope to welcome you back again! Kind regards.

"We didn[--]t use the car all week..."
We loved our stay at Myrtle Cottage. It is central enough to take advantage of local restaurants and pubs while there is excellent coastal walking in both directions. It's not far to find dog-friendly beaches where, if you time it right, you can stop at a pub on the way back. The facilities are excellent, the stairs not too steep for Grandparents in their 70's nor the house too small when our 6-7 month old baby needed to sleep. We'll be back I expect, it was a lovely place in what turned out to be a great base for everything we needed.
Thank you so much for posting this review. Am delighted to hear that you, baby, grandparents and dogs all enjoyed Meva and Myrtle so much :) We look forward to welcoming you back again. Kind regards.

"terrible service smelly cottage lovely location"
Myrtle cottage should have been lovely - great location and views, enough space, however the house stank of drains and sewage for most of the week and the bottom bedroom is too small to be called a twin, had damp to the extent that the bedding was damp in the evenings....(the next guest after us said the dehumidifier was pulling a litre a day). I tried to call the emergency cleaner mid week after deciding that it was too horrid to just put up with and also called the owner twice and left messages. I have corresponded with them since and the attitude of Debbie the owner has been horrendous, ( I will be posting her emails shortly as they are shockingly aggressive and unhelpful). I have rented cottages in this country and Europe every year for the last 6 years and have never before complained. I suggest you go to Meva but stay somewhere else!!!!
Thank you for taking the time to post this review. As I explained in my courtesy email to you, the very wet weather for a long time had put a strain on the village drainage system, and we indeed had a problem with the downpipe going into the porch. Without wanting to go into details here with information about your lies regarding raw sewage and supposed messages, not to mention your aggressive attitude to my Housekeeper when you'd realised you'd left coats and your wedding ring, plus the disgusting state you left Myrtle in when you left, I decided to decline your challenge to offer compensation. Needless to say, the smelly-porch situation has now been resolved, and as you quite rightly say, Myrtle is a fabulous place to stay. I too can post your emails and comments from my Housekeeper. I have never been so upset by a visitor to Myrtle in the 6 years I've been renting her to lovely appreciative guests.

"A brilliant spot right on the harbour. Lovely house but very steep stairs"
Helped by fabulous weather, we had a great stay in Myrtle Cottage. You have to creep through the crowds on Mevagissey harbour to park, but once there you can do loads on foot. The house is surrounded by shops and bars and restaurants and you can walk along the clifftop to small beaches such as Melyn Porth. The cottage is thin and tall with scary stairs, definitely not suitable for the elderly or young children. It has a lovely roof top garden where you can see the sea and hear the hundreds of sea gulls.

"Lovely cottage in middle of seaside village"
In the middle of Mevagissey (so difficult to park) , lovely , clean cottage with sun trap back yard. Everything you need for comfort and fantastically comfortable king size bed. Broadband appreciated by teenagers too.
Well situated for walk to Heligan and along coastal footpath. Would recommend.
Thank you for your positive comments...... Myrtle now has her own Harbour Parking Pass, so parking isn't a problem, and just a short walk away.
