The Old Shop apartment is a ground floor apartment within a Grade 2 listed Georgian town house in the picturesque Cornish fishing village of Mevagissey. Dating back to 1830, this 3 storey property has recently been renovated to a high standard from top to bottom. The middle and top floors make a 4 bedroomed holiday cottage to sleep eight people (see Courtyard Cottage, listed separately). The apartment converted from the shop on the ground floor (sleeping two / four people) is ideal for those who would prefer to not have to use stairs and the entrance lobby, lounge and bedroom doorways are wide enough for wheelchair access. Please contact us if you are a wheelchair user for more information.

Situated 200 metres from the harbour and just 20 metres from the car park, The Old Shop apartment is ideal for couples and small families to explore the region with beaches, cliff-top walks and the Lost Gardens of Heligan only minutes away. Perfectly located in the village, the Old Shop apartment is just a short level walk to the restaurants and pubs in the narrow cobbled streets, but far out enough from the hustle and bustle to be quieter at night. The bedroom is at the back of the property and there is a sofa bed in the lounge which easily folds down to make a comfortable double bed. Double glazing in all of the windows and air conditioning in the lounge/ sofa bed area bring the property up to modern standards without losing the charm of a property of this age.

The kitchen diner is a mix of old and new, with the original fireplace housing the cooker. The kitchen is well equipped with plenty of utensils, crockery and cutlery. As well as the cooker with double oven, there is also a microwave oven. There is a fridge and a washer dryer. The oak table in the dining area comfortably seats 4 people.

The lounge has a traditional two seater settee and a 3 seater sofa bed that folds down easily to make a comfortable double bed. A lovely soft feather and down topper give the sofa bed added luxury. Additional storage space for clothes is near to the lounge should any of your party choose to use the sofa bed. There is an Xbox (with games), DVD player (with over 100 DVD's) and an iPod docking station. Free Wi-fi plus a 40 inch TV with Freeview and a selection of family games should provide enough entertainment to keep everyone happy in between trips out and about.

The bedroom at the back of the property has a king size bed, wardrobe and chests of drawers. There is a wall mounted 32 inch TV also with freeview and built in DVD player.

The wet-room, situated centrally within the apartment, has a shower, toilet and basin. With under-floor heating and a Mira Sportmax shower, this is a modern compact wet-room.

The Lounge, dining area and bedroom all have Rointe energy efficient electric radiators and electricity is included in the tariff. Bed linen and towels are also provided free of charge.

Saturday changeover days throughout the year, but we may be able to be flexible with changeover days outside of UK school holidays.

Last minute deals may also be available. If there is just a week or so before your desired arrival date please get in touch for our best price.

Parking is always available nearby at a cost of £25 to £40 per week, please contact us for further details before you book our property. If you require a parking space very close to the Old Shop apartment, please let us know and we will arrange for one to be reserved.

We also own Courtyard Cottage (situated above the Old Shop apartment) and if you are looking to accommodate up to 12 people, you can rent both properties, subject to both properties being available. See listing "Forde House" - property number 1738477

The Cornwall region

The South West of Cornwall has a wide variety of attractions to explore. With it's mild climate Cornwall is home to many gardens and National Trust properties. The Eden Project and the Tall Ships Harbour in Charlestown are both within 10 miles of Mevagissey and Truro with its magnificent cathedral and numerous shops is 20 miles away. Fowey, Gorran Haven and the Roseland Penninsula are also popular local destinations. Walk along rugged coastal paths or long sandy beaches, Cornwall has something for everyone, young or old.

Mevagissey has numerous restaurants and family friendly pubs, often hosting live music. Being small, Mevagissey has escaped the commercialisation of other Cornish seaside destinations and has a selection of interesting independent shops. Having made its wealth from pilchard fishing, Mevagissey once had 9 butchers shops. With its double harbour, Mevagissey is one of only a few working fishing villages left in Cornwall and you can take a pleasure cruise or try mackerel fishing whilst enjoying the glorious views of the Cornish coastline where you may catch a glimpse of seals, dolphins or basking sharks. There is a model railway and free museum within the village along with an activity centre which has a variety of activities. There is also a local scuba-diving club and the Pentewan cycle trail has lots of level stretches through the woods following the river. Towards the end of June Mevagissey celebrates Feast Week, a week of family fun, music, and floral dances through the streets. There is a small beach in the harbour and Portmellon and Pentewan beaches nearby. New Year's Eve is not to be missed as all the locals are in fancy dress so don't forget your outfit to see in the New Year.

"Wonderful apartment with character"

The apartment is centrally situated in Mevagissey and has been furnished and equipped to a very high standard. It was very clean and the décor was very attractive. The car park was a few yards across the road, and the walk to the harbour took approx. 5 mins.

"You will not be disappointed"

From the moment you walk through the door you will be impressed. John and Kate have gone the extra mile to make this property really special and the little extra touches they provide (Xbox, games, dvd's etc), go above and beyond what you might expect to find. Last year we took our grown family and 2 grandchildren to stay in the attached 4 bedroom cottage, we enjoyed it so much this year my wife and I returned to stay in the apartment (The Old Shop). From the moment you first enquire you will realise the owners are keen you enjoy the very best experience with prompt and helpful responses. The description and photo's really do describe and show what you will find when you arrive. The properties are very well equipped and wonderfully appointed, incredibly clean, exceedingly comfortable and warm even, when like us you choose to visit in late October. The location is ideal being only a 5 minute walk on level ground to the quaint fishing harbour, shops, good restaurants and hostelries. If you wish to travel and see the rest of Cornwall Mevagissey is a superb starting point, with most locations reasonably accessible and some really lovely villages only a short drive away. We would have no hesitation at all recommending both of these properties to friends and relatives. In fact so keen was one daughter to return this year she made a 320 mile round-trip with her fiance just for the weekend and slept on the very comfortable sofa bed in the lounge. Believe me you will not be disappointed.

"Fantastic, spotless, cost holiday let in Mevagissey"

We stayed at the Old Shop in Mevagissey for a week at the end of September. John and Kate the owners were great at communicating with us prior to the stay. They went the extra mile to assist me, such as with a reserved parking space, as I have mobility problems. The old shop is a ground floor apartment in the centre of Mevagissey, perfectly located for a short stroll to the harbour front on flat ground. Perfect for those with mobility issues. It was spotlessly clean and had everything you would ever need. It was very comfortable and had a nice sense of space. Bathe shower was great for me with my mobility problems as it was a wet room so no steps to get over for the shower, plus I could use my freestanding shower chair easily. We would very much recommend this property and would stay again if we go back to Mevagissey... A place we absolutely loved!

"Great apartment, spotlessly clean, all mod cons, great location"

A great 1 bedroom apartment that has been renovated to a high standard, all mod cons provided air con in lounge, wi fi flat screen tv etc. It must also be mentioned it was also spotlessly clean. The owners John and Kate were very helpful with any questions both prior to the holiday and also when we arrived. Great location with public car park meters away from the front door (John can arrange a permit for the week) and harbour, shops and restaurants minutes walk away. This apartment was great when we stayed and the weather was fantastic, but I think it would be very cosy if the weather was colder.

"Amazing Apartment, cant wait to go back"

Having decided only the day before to go away, I found The Old Shop in Mevagissey and with a few different options I decided to go with The Old Shop and what a great choice it was. The apartment is in acgreat location, parking is available opposite and it is only a 1 min walk to the shops and harbour. Never been to Mevagissey but loved how relaxed it was and had a nice collection of shops and a few nice restaurants and pubs for a cheeky pint. We also had close by a few beaches that went to, and if you need brand shops then the busier town of St Austell is 5 mins drive away. About The Old Shop........well John the owner was a pleasure to desl with, answered my rmsils anc texts promptly and came to meet us shortly after we srtived. The apartment is beautifully decorated and is very modern. The kitchen has everything you need, having a proper dinning room table was great, not just some pull out table the some places have. The bed was very comfortable with a wardrobe and drawers which was plenty for us. My sister in law came also, and she used the sofa bed which I must say was very good, again not the poor sofa beds you get a some places. There was a lovely large flat screen tv, free wifi, dvd player and dvd's and an x box, it had everything you need.....................and MOST IMPORTANTLY IT WAS CLEAN, INFACT SPOTLESS. Stayed in a few places in Cornwall and this is by far my favourite

"A perfect apartment"

Only recently completed, the Old Shop was perfect in everyway. Stylish, modern but warm and welcoming. Decor and furniture lovely. Our younger son and partner stayed there for the first part of the week and then a couple from home took over from them. It was enjoyed by both sets of people. Much thought has gone into this property (as with Courtyard Cottage) and has resulted in an excellent self contained apartment but next to the larger property. Plenty of space and extras included within. Excellent.

"lovely property with all you need"

Had a lovely stay in the old shop. A high standard property which has been well thought out, with everything you need for a comfortable stay. It's location is great, a very short walk from the charming shops and restaurants in Mevagissey. We used it as a great base to visit all areas of Cornwall. Would highly recommend.

"Home from home comforts at the Old Shop"

The 'Old Shop' really does offer home comforts, the renovation and conversion has been completed to an exceptionally high standard with full consideration to the needs of the visitors. Each of the rooms is well furnished and offers a surprising amount of space. The bed room has sufficient storage but the star of the room is the king size bed that comfortably accommodated my 6ft 2 inch body. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you need to make a full roast Sunday lunch. The dining area offers lots of space so that even with the low ceiling the room does not feel cramped. The lounge with its large flat screen TV and great choice of DVDs makes sure there is plenty of entertainment for an evening in. The best part is the location of the 'Old Shop' which is only a short stroll on level ground to the harbour, shops and restaurants. Even though I have some mobility issues I was still able to get out and about and still enjoy the quaint village of Mevagissey. The owners John and Kate are very approachable and helped to facilitate our stay. I would highly recommend this accommodation.
