The Olive Barn
About the home
The Olive Barn is a unique 300 year old property that has been sympathetically converted to retain its original character and many original features from its use as an olive oil press. The barn is in the peaceful and friendly working village of Megalochori and sits in an elevated position offering breathtaking views over the Bay of Epidavros and mountains.
Although the barn is in a rural location the nearest beach is within walking distance, and further uncrowded beaches are very short car journeys away. A leisurely 20 minute walk takes you to the picturesque fishing harbour at Vathi with its three tavernas.
The area is perfect for swimming, snorkelling, fishing, walking, exploring, or just total undisturbed peace and relaxation.

The Peloponnese region

The Peloponnese is a rugged land with important archeological sites, beautiful shores, and hillsides covered with rich greenery. Its cities, towns, and spas were important centres in antiquity, and remain so today. It is one of the most traditional areas of Greece with much to see, and whose local residents are unfailingly hospitable and friendly.
The Methana / Megalahori area
Megalochori is on the ruggedly beautiful Methana peninsula on the eastern Peloponnese. The peninsula juts out into the Saronic Gulf between the islands of Aegina and Poros and is easily reached from Athens by ferry or direct by car via the Corinth Canal. Methana is a traditional Greek area, much more relaxed than the usual tourist locations with no mass tourism. Methana town, which is less than a 10 minute drive from the barn, has an attractive tree lined promenade with a variety of tavernas and bars, and the usual variety of small town shops, chemists, greengrocers, bank, post office, etc. Despite being away from the more frequented tourist destimnations it is an ideal location for a variety of day trips to destinations such as Athens, Corinth, Epidavros, Argos, and the islands of Poros, Hydra, Spetses, Aegina and Angistri. Methana has been known since antiquity for its curative thermal springs, and the area is criss-crossed with historic mountain paths leading to isolated churches, ancient ruins and deserted villages.
