Villa | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 6
Fantastic holiday accommodation with all mod cons in a renovated 150 year old Greek Village House, 500 metres from the beach and castle and close to village bakery, shops and tavernas.
The original features of the old town house have been carefully preserved yet Aleiki Villa has everything you expect in high quality, self contained holiday accommodation. It can sleep up to 7 of a mix of adults and children or 5 adults. The private walled garden has shady fruit trees ideal for relaxing out of the hot sun. The outside eating terraced area is partly covered and is also a safe place for very young children. We try to provide you a home from home with everything you need including microwave, coffee maker, childrens toys, paddling pool, barbecue, DVD player and 3G internet access.
Our two Villas are in Methoni, a charming Messinian village in the beautiful Greek Peloponnese. Even in the high season the long beach is uncrowded and you can eat with the locals a minute from your door or join visitors in the village square restaurants. More details and many reviews at our www.methonians.com site.
The beach, castle and tavernas are close by so you do not need a car in the village and if you have one you can relax and just use it for excursions.
Over-development that has occurred in many parts of Greece passed by the South West Peloponnese and the friendly rural community maintains its identity and customs. Our many beaches are far enough from Athens to be still considered off the beaten track so those that come here enjoy a peaceful, unspoilt, relaxed atmosphere.
Methoni beach is several kilometers long and there is something for everyone. It begins at the castle where it is quiet with just some boats moored. A bit further on the most popular stretch nearest to the Villa and opposite the village square has some sunbeds and an area protected from the sun by Tamarisk trees. Next there is a very long thin stretch beside the protected road. Finally it ends in a beautiful 'mini beach' which has a dozen unbrellas and a tiny cafe. It takes about 25 minutes to walk the entire beach. The water is clear and the beach is very safe for children. You are only 2m deep at around 20m from the shore on the main section. Methoni castle is the biggest in the Mediterranean and steeped in history from its inception by the Venetians through rule by the Turks and to Greek independence. It's a wonderful place for children covering many sq km, with tunnels battlements, a ruined village and several byzantine churches inside the huge walls. Our guests tend to return again and again as it is hard to see it all in one day.
You can hire a boat for the day and visit the white sand beach on the nearby island of Sapienza where the water is super clear and great for snorkelling.
This area has many attractions including Ancient Olympia and Bassia Temple ( which can be visited as a day trip by car ), Nestor's Palace, Polilimnio waterfalls, Voidikilia Beach and Nature Reserve , Ancient Messini ( one of the most interesting archaeologial sites in Greece ) and Navarino Bay where Greek Independence was secured.
Aleiki and Phoebe Villas are family owned and independent and we look forward to welcoming you here for a memorable holiday. More details and many reviews at our www.methonians.com site.

The Messenia Region
This corner of Messinia has many of Greece's finest qualities all in one place. We have kilometers of safe sandy beaches and they remain uncrowded even in peak season. The New York Times holiday section voted Voidokilia beach into its world top 10 just a couple of years ago.
Roadside stalls and farmers' markets teem with local produce which is freshly picked daily. Our local farmer picks fresh vegetables in the morning and you can buy them there and then - straight off the trailer. The region is untouched by runaway commercialism and the locals are friendly and welcoming.
When you eat in local restaurants the full gamut of traditional dishes are on offer, priced so that villager and tourist alike can eat and enjoy. Local wines cost a couple of euros per half litre. An example is the Kastro taverna opposite Methoni castle. It's a wonderful place to enjoy balmy evenings, eating home-cooked food at a pavement table with the illuminated castle towers and arches dominating the night sky. You begin to understand why, when The Venetians lost Methoni Castle, the Doge cried. More details and reviews at our site methonians.com .
The area is steeped in history. Myth bursts into life as you take in the view of The Ionian Sea from Nestor's Palace and imagine the King's ships coming into view on their return from Troy. Messinia has a wealth of archaeological sites. Ancient Messini, the jewel in the crown is just over an hours drive from Methoni. Ancient Olympia and Bassae are easy and exciting day trips. The famous Polylimnio waterfalls are 30 mins. Methoni castle is on your doorstep and Koroni castle, Pylos castle, Paliokastro in Gialova are all just a short drive away.
From the tortoises of Methoni Castle and the rare African Chameleons of Gialova lagoon, to the cicadas which burrow up from the garden in Summer and sing all night, the rich flora and fauna make each day an adventure. More details and reviews at our site methonians.com .
