The Sicily region
The Aeolian archipelago is made up of seven islands,( Vulcano being the nearest only 50 minutes by boat from Milazzo or Portorosa) whose beauty and characteristics vary from island to island. In order of size, they are: Lipari, Salina, Vulcano, Stromboli, Filicudi, Alicudi, Panarea.
The name "Aeolian" derives from Eolo, god of the winds, who, according to Homer, lived here. Since they are merely volcanic islands, the forces of nature, air, water and fire show themselves continuously. Stromboli is the only active volcano; from its several craters the magma pouring out towards the sea gushes out. Vulcano has been inactive for a very long time; actually the last eruption dates back to 1890 and ever since the volcano has kept a fumarole stage.
Tourists visiting these islands will be fascinated by the natural beauties they offer: a deep blue crystal clear sea, thanks to the seabed rich in "posedonia" sea-weed and a variety of fish; the pebbly and black sandy beaches; enormous rocks emerging from the sea; sea caves to explore and above all the sunsets and the dawns which, with their colours, make everything very striking. In the Aeolian Islands the climate is very mild, typically Mediterranean; the thermometre never goes below 10 degrees C and this allows agreeable stays even off season.
Messina / Rodi' Milici area
Portorosa, 5 minutes from the Villa is a planned city initiated in the 1980s and 1990s that offers residences, hotel accommodations, swimming pools, and a large marina (over 600 berths). A large Hilton hotel overlooks the marina. The marina is also surrounded by villas and a shopping area that includes restaurants and stores.
Portorosa is an ideal port for embarkation due to its proximity to the Aeolian islands (13 nautical miles to Vulcano, 17 nautical miles to Lipari). Tindari is 15 km west of Portorosa. Rodi Milici is a 5 minute drive from the Villa. It's a typical sicilian village, with 2000 habitants. Here you will find all you need during your stay, supermarkets, chemist, bank, post office, butchers, greengrocers and several restaurants serving typical sicilian cuisine ( try the pizzas at Rhodis!) Also bars serving the famous "granite" iced coffee or strawberry served with fresh cream and brioshe, for a typical sicilian breakfast. Also this area offers an excellent local wine which costs £1 per litre!

Guestbook for Antica Villa Giuliana
The Villa Giuliana is one of the few places that I've been to that totally lives up to its advertising. The Grecos have created a warm welcoming environment in a picturesque setting. There are 2 patios where a person can read or just sunbathe; one off the master bedroom, & one off the other upstairs bedroom. There is also a patio, just off the Kitchen, where we gathered to chat, dine, or just to enjoy the view of Mt Etna to the west, or the sea to the east. The villa is isolated enough for resting & relaxing, & yet it is centrally located on the north coast of Sicily. We (3 couples ranging in age from mid 20s through late 60s) used it as a base of operations for seeing sites all over the island. We all felt perfectly safe in the villa, in spite of Sicily's "bad" reputation. In short we can't say enough good things about the villa & its warm & welcoming host & hostess. Joe & Mary Margaret Girgenti, Tariffville, CT USA
The villa was clean, comfortable and spacious. It had all the required necessaties to make it a relaxed and enjoyable stay. Set in its own grounds it was peaceful and had lovely views. Plenty of fresh towels, sheets and bedding. I would certainly stay there again. A good base to explore the beautiful island of Sicily. May 2008 Mrs Spencer UK.
hi was a great place to stay loved the views, it was very clean, brilliant place as a base for exploring the island some interesting places very close to property, hosts were very friendly and helpfull, would have no problems recommending to friends and family and will stay again in the near future probably next year." 15/10/2008 Mr michael g. Holland.
"The villa had `been sympatheticaly restored and was a pleasure to stay in. The owners were very friendly and helpful and we had a wonderful time. The island is beautiful and the weather fantastic, it was great to have a welcoming place to come back to after a days exploring" May 2009 Mr I Potter, UK.

We had a really lovely week and Villa Giuliana is really beautiful. Please do forward us details of your other Villa when it is available... I don't think Sicily has seen the last of us..! 31/10/2009 Ross and Debbie UK. Take care. Thank you again, kind regards, Debbie, Ross, Bethan & Jamie x
