About the home

Les Herons is close to 50 miles of beautiful sandy beaches, Resorts such as Royan, Meschers, St George and more are within minutes, Roman history at Saintes and at La Fa just 2 kms away, beautiful Talmont is only 3kms away, Cognac is close by, Wine, Pineau and Cognac tastings abound locally. So much to see and do!

Les Herons has had a full rewire and redecoration in 2010 and is sympathetically extended & renovated for comfort, safety and enjoyable family holidays. Les Herons is decorated with a slightly marine/nautical theme throughout. With it's gardens, large lounge, separate dining room, two kitchens, shower room and separate W.C., as well as three very large bedrooms sleeping up to eight people comfortably, it really is the ideal family seaside holiday. Les Herons is a 126 metre square detached cottage. The gardens offer two furnished patio's, one very private and one with stone BBQ and sun furniture and also offer off road parking for 2/3 cars.

The pretty port is a calm quiet backwater with two family bar/restaurants, each with varied menus and outdoor dining and relaxation areas. Picnic tables on the port are great for the days you're staying local, for a days fishing, sun bathing and enjoying the local seafood or perhaps your own picnic delights. The port of Les Monards is a relaxed working and leisure port where there's always something to watch and wonder at. The beaches, ports, and seaside towns very close by have inspired the nautical theme running through the house.

The three bedrooms each have lots of character and space for you and your clothes, fitted or generous freestanding wardrobes and chests for all your holiday togs. The beds are comfortable and the linen, pillows & duvets INCLUDED in the price and changed weekly are of good quality. The master bedroom has a king sized bed for two, the second large bedroom is a triple room with 3 very comfy singles, the third bedroom is a large mezzanine, curtained for privacy, the children always want to sleep in this room, it is the only first floor room in the house. There is a single and a double bed available in this room.
The house kitchens are fully equipped as listed. The owners, that's us! live 30 mins away and will meet you at the start and end of your holidays. We're near enough to help if you need us, far enough away for you to enjoy our house.
The house enjoys mains drainage, still rare in French rural properties and some would say even more rarely, it boasts modern fully conforming electrics. It really is home from home. It is a fully registered gite and insured as such, most aren't.
Double glazing, log fire, electric heaters in all rooms make this house ideal for holidays all year round.

The house gardens and driveway are closeable and secure, ideal if you are travelling with young children, pets or elderly relatives!! The neighbours are friendly.
The lawns are more for sun bathing than crown or flat green bowling, ideal safe enjoyable family areas.
The gardens are home to a fruiting nectarine and olive tree, a 20ft palm tree as well as other mature trees and plants, all testament to the good climate around this beautiful area. The village is bordered by the river and it's port to one side and vines for miles in all other directions.

All bed linen, bedding, towels (beach, bath, hand and tea towel per guest) are FREE within the rental price, linen and towels are changed weekly on lets of over one week.
All electricity, gas, water is INCLUDED FREE within the rental price. Once your booking is confirmed, we guarantee your holiday price no matter what happens with exchange rates.
We provide an inclusive price in a traditional detatched and tastefully modernised cottage in a beautiful location.

Conditions

A small deposit is payable on arrival and returned at the end of your holiday less the cost of any breakages or cleaning required.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente Maritime region

The immediate area is ideal perfect for beach and seaside holidays and is also well recognised for walking, cycling, fishing, sailing, horse riding, swimming, water sports, wine studies as well as Cognac studies!!
The list of beaches is almost endless, save to say they start close by and continue north for about 50 miles.
Within 2 kms is the historical Roman site of La Fa and the beautiful promontory village of Talmont sur Gironde. Built by Edward the 1st of England and having over half a million visitors each year though only 86 residents.
Visits to vinyards, beaches, a great zoo, Bordeaux, La Rochelle , Cognac, Saintes and many more are all within five mins to less than an hours drive. The beautiful islands of Ile de Re, Ile de Oleron (home to the Depp family), Fort Boyard ( as seen on TV), Ile Madame and Ile de yeu are all visitable within an hours drive. There is so much to see and do, you'll come back a few times!

The Meschers-sur-Gironde area

The area is called the "pays Royannaise" or Royan area. The town with it's clubs, casinos and white sands is about 10/15 mins drive. In between, enjoy the calm of the beaches of the area , small cove beaches, beautiful long white sand beaches, harbours and crab pools to explore.
The daily market in Meschers offers an abundance of fresh sea food and fish, oysters are cheaper than chips here! Local restaurants at Port les Monards and around offer super value menus with seafood and meat dishes cooked in local and international style.

La Rochelle, Bordeaux and Angouleme airports are each under an hours drive with Limoges, Bergerac, Poitiers airports all less than two hours away. Flights to these airports are provided by Ryanair, BMI Baby, Easyjet, Jet2, Fly-be, BA and more. Flights to these airports take off from a variety of UK/Irish airports including Stansted, Gatwick, Luton, Bournemouth, Exeter, Bristol, Birmingham, E.Midlands, Doncaster, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Dublin and more. Contact the owner for a list of all flights from the UK. All local airports have car hire, taxis and bus services available.

Travel by ferry is very easy as well with Calais, Boulogne and Dunkirk only 550 miles away and St Malo, Roscoff less than half this distance. All ferry ports are comfortably accessible within a day.

“Great place to experience the Gironde” We chose Les Herons for its location and really enjoyed our 2 week stay. The house was better than we had expected, very comfortable light and sunny with a front yard ideal for a book, wine and dinner. The two restaurants (1 min and 3min) served excellent food especially the Auberge. Walks up the coast and through the quiet lanes. The local towns and markets and sights tourist things were fantastic. We loved the Gironde.

All bedding and towels (changed weekly) including beach towels are included as is all gas, electricity, water (and logs for out of hi-season lets only) are included in our quoted price. Out of hi season, the second and subsequent weeks are often at a lower price, Similarly, we often discount if just two persons are staying, ask for a quote.

On arrival a 200euros or £150 security deposit is requested. This is returned at the end of your holiday less the cost of any unreplaced breakages or cleaning costs, these are usually nil and our guests return home with the deposit to buy meals on the way home or to leave with us as a deposit for their next visit.
