"Ideal location by the sea shore."

Beautiful views across the water from the kitchen, excellent location. Not as private as we had hoped for and the steepness of the stairs may be a problem for some guests.

"Ideal location, beautifully appointed."

It would be harder to find a more perfect spot for a small, beautifully appointed fisherman's cottage, absolutely ideal for two. Mersea Island is great for walking, cycling, bird-watching and seafood.

"Perfectly formed, perfectly placed..."

To escape the everyday grind of London life, my husband and I decided to visit Mersea Island for a much needed short break. We'd heard about the island, its very famous fresh fish restaurant and its very own vineyard, and of course the stunning scenery. For my husband, a film maker, this was also part of his ongoing search for atmospheric places. The cottage was just perfect for us. Perfectly placed on the Coast Road, we couldn't be nearer to the water or happier. If you want to experience the magic of Mersea Island, you also need to experience the magic of this romantic retreat. Watching the sunset from the kitchen and waking up and staring out across the water made me happy to be alive. The long walks along the shoreline followed by a glass of Mersea Native (wine) back at the cottage were just perfect! Thank you to the owner for providing a home from home and creating a memory to treasure. We'll try not to tell too many people about it, but it'll be hard not too...

"Fab location on the island."

Great location, cottage is small but perfectly formed with all you need and more for a great relaxing break. Great communication, the cottage was clean and tidy and owner very helpful.

"This cottage is a gem"

It hurts to write a review of this cottage, we would like to keep it as our own secret hideaway. The cottage is small but perfectly formed and adjoins identical properties whose owners were friendly and helpful. It is within a stone's throw from The Company Shed, a renowned fish cafe, an oyster restaurant, two pubs, general cafes and a 5 minute walk from the town's high street. A public footpath right outside the cottage takes you on an atmospheric walk along the river and the old oyster pits to the causeway on which you enter Mersea Island. We stayed when there were very high daytime tides which cut of the roads and necessitated wellington boots to wade through the water. We parked our car a couple of streets above the cottage. Nothe Cottage's garden is a perfect place to watch the ebb and flow of the tidal river, chat with passer-bys and watch the oyster boats coming and going. The sunsets are the topping on the proverbial cake. The owner's relaxed charm is reflected in this 'tardis' style cottage and it was simply a joy to return to each day.
