About this location
The Essex region
This lovely island is quiet and peaceful and perfect for a relaxing break.
The cottage is in a perfect position by the beach and sea but also a short stroll from the grocers, deli, newsagent and small supermarket.
Visitors to the cottage return year after year once they find Mersea Island and West Mersea.
Many people visit to enjoy lunch at The Company Shed, Coast Road, West Mersea or the Oyster Bar and Restaurant. Another popular place to visit is the Mersea Island Vineyard, East Mersea where they make both wine and beer.
The small West Mersea Village is home to a number of small specialist shops and one small supermarket so all your needs can be catered for without getting in the car.
This area is popular for sailing and also for beach holidays
For exploring you are only a short drive from Colchester, Malden, Wivenhoe and Constable country in Essex and Suffolk.. Villages and interesting towns are everywhere.
There are some interesting villages for old guildhalls and overhanging cottages, numerous gastro pubs and restaurants also foodie destination like Tiptree where they make the jam, have a museum and a good tea room.
West Mersea is ideal for walking, sailing, birdwatching and beachside activities. East Mersea has its own vineyard and brewery!
The popular restaurant The Company Shed , West Mersea serves oysters, clams, prawns, lobster, mussels and more depending on time of year.
The island has a strood which gets covered in sea water occasionally cutting the island off - this last for about an hour and tide timetables are available on the web for checking before travelling.
