The Menton area

It has been called the most beautiful town on the French Riviera, every year in February, the Lemon Festival takes place in the town, attracting many tourists to this special, vibrant and colourful town.

This was our 2nd stay at Le Residence le Moliere, its a 2bedroom really spacious apartment, with great appliances ie washer/dishwasher/iron and a tv with English dvds, I travelled with my wife and two sons aged 12+18yrs, there are 2 dining tables,1 outside on the balcony,+1 inside lounge,it is spotlessly clean and the agent speaks good English, who met us and showed us around, also advice on where to park the hire car. There is a small supermarket just next door, which sells everything you might need including freshly baked baguettes and croissonts plus a butchers nearby,fruit+veg shop+a few patisseries, The beach is just a short walk and there are plenty of restaurants+snack bars too, 'International Pizza' is just up the road which has the best pizza in Menton!! You can take the train to Ventamigla Market, the station is about 10mins walk, or into Monaco going the other direction, also the local buses very cheap into the Old Town or along the coast into Monte Carlo. We love Menton, we enjoyed our stay at Le Moliere and we would highly recommend it. |

We came in from Nice airport via a bus that let us off at the Solenzara stop just 1 block from the apartment and were met there by wonderful Michaela who walked us up. How convenient is that! The stop is right in front of the Solenzara restaurant directly on the sea. We were so excited to find that our apartment was visible from there and had a wonderful sea view as well from it's balcony and eating area.The marble floors were so cool and lovely and the big sofa was so comfy. There is a ton of storage in this place, and actually 3 balconies! The front one faces the sea and the 2 back ones have a view of the mountains over the streets of Menton. We used to check the mountain view every morning to see if it was clear or shrouded in mist.Really pretty either way.The third balcony is off the kitchen and contains the laundry facilities.The owners provided maps and books and schedules for the buses and trains and even a french-english dictionary!We used all of these every day we were there. The town visitors center is just a short walk after a left turn out of the building. Just a little farther is a wonderful patisserie and a grocery store beyond that.Go half a block right and there is a bus stop that you can use to go into old Menton for only one Euro. We chose to walk most of the time though as the walk was along the front of the sea and the views were so amazing. That walk is lined with benches and restaurants so we often went that way for dinner. Walk that promenade in the other direction and you get more choices of restaurants and lovely views of the old town. Don't get the idea that this place is too commercial though, because the pace is very relaxing and uncrowded. Old town Menton has lots of little shops where the people have many of their wares outside. You can find crepes made to order or what is called Bruschetta but is actually a wonderful soft bread base with pizza like toppings. Yum Yum.Check out the candy shop and the gelato place too. Take the bus to Monaco or any of the small villages nearby, or even the short train trip to nearby Italy. It is all so reasonable and so accessible from here. The owners of the apartment were very easy to deal with and answered my every pre-trip question promptly. The price was totally reasonable. The apartment is spacious and has an elevator up to it's 3rd floor location. We will have wonderful memories to carry with us forever from this place. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. |
