Set In the midst of the beautiful, rolling 'Deux Sevres' countryside, 25mins from Poitiers airport, one hour from La Rochelle airport, and within easy motorway reach of all the Channel ports, is a large, superb, stone holiday cottage that can accommodate 8 people. Bramble Cottage has been renovated to a very high standard to provide four double bedrooms. Three of these are upstairs, one en-suite with double basin, bidet, wc and walk in shower. Another bedroom enjoys an adjacent shower room with basin, bidet and wc, and the third with a double ended bath with shower rose, wc and basin. The downstairs bedroom has a shower room nearby with toilet and wash basin.

By arrangement, additional single beds and cots can be accommodated in the upstairs bedrooms, or single beds changed for double beds.

Bramble Cottage is situated at the edge of a small hamlet. It stands in ¾ acre of grassed garden which is suitable for most ball games overlooking delightful, picturesque open views. There is a large, private, stone flagged patio area which enjoys the sun from mid morning to wonderful sunsets. There are both gas and solid fuel barbecues, sun beds and garden furniture. The terrace is accessed by double doors from both the breakfast area of the large farmhouse kitchen as well as the sitting room. The main kitchen door opens onto a second smaller stone flagged terrace.

A private outdoor above ground pool is situated off the large terrace and is open from May to early October.

The property is centrally heated throughout and air conditioned in two bedrooms and the breakfast kitchen.

There is satellite T.V. piped to all bedrooms, sitting room and breakfast room, including wi-fi access.

The large sitting room has a double aspect onto the front drive as well as the double french doors to the sun terrace and the rolling open countryside beyond. It has 2 large sofas and 3 large armchairs. There is a 55" flat screen TV with DVD player and a CD/radio/cassette player stack, along with various board games. An insert wood burner coupled with the central heating provides that 'snuggle in feeling' when the nights draw in, offering all year round holidays.

The dining room has a large extending oak table which easily seats 10 people in comfort. This room was once the kitchen and one exposed stone wall has been retained complete with the original stone fire surround. This now houses a free standing wood burner and the adjacent potager has also been exposed.

The extensive breakfast kitchen is fully equipped with a large Rangemaster double oven. The oak kitchen units house a large pull out larder unit, fridge, double bowl sink and dishwasher. A double width oak counter top provides both a breakfast bar, opening to the breakfast area with an extendable oak table, oak chairs and full length oak bench. A utility area leads off the other end of the kitchen, accommodating a belfast sink, double electric hob (optional to using main kitchen hob), standard fridge, 'american' fridge with water and ice dispenser (never short of ice for that gin and tonic), washing machine and second dishwasher, which takes the chore out of holiday meal-times!

About this location

The Poitou-Charentes region

The Deux-Sevres is an unspoilt department of the Poitou-Charentes region, truly dedicated to relaxing, and known as one of France's 'Best Kept Secrets'. With at least 2,600 hours of sunshine a year, the department of Deux Sevres, is second only to the South of France as the sunniest area of France.

This warm and gentle micro-climate, benefiting from the warmth of the La Rochelle basin, in a rural setting of fields and forests, lakes and rivers, makes Deux Sevres an ideal holiday destination for those who enjoy all kinds of outside pursuits such as golf, walking, cycling, fishing and horse riding. This is an excellent choice for a holiday.

In every direction from Bramble Cottage there are attractions. Poitou-Charentes is a fantastic place to visit for all ages, from pursuits in the tranquil countryside to Futuroscope, the theme park of the moving image, Puy du Fou with over twelve different outdoor themed shows every day, La Rochelle Aquarium, Vallee De Singes, (Valley of the monkeys very popular with all ages) Naltulas (water park) Oradour-sur-Glane (memorial and museum village) , numerous Chateaux of the Loire, Site Gallo-Romain de Sanxay (Open air Opera-early August every year), Tumulus of Bourgon from 4800BC, and the Silver Mines and triad of Romanesque churches of Melle. The Marais Poitevin (Little green Venice) has a labyrinth of canals and waterways which can be explored by boat, either with a guide or independently. Poitiers and Niort have a great range of shops, supermarkets and restaurants, and so many sites to see, that one holiday can never be enough! Go-karting is on the outskirts of Niort. Cognac is a comfortable drive and famous for its several distilleries Hennessy, Martell and Remy Martin offering guided tours.

Miles of fantastic Atlantic coastline beckon for those who love the sand between their toes and the sea breeze cooling you. Beautiful villages, markets and friendly locals make this a truly memorable and special place to relax and unwind.

Menigoute

The hamlet sits on the border of the Deux Sevres and Vienne departments at the heart of the Poitou-Charentes region.

Sanxay is 4km from Bramble with its outdoor public swimming pool and play area, bakery, and Co-op mini market.

Menigoute is 10 mins away with a good Spa supermarket, bank, cash machine, bakery, pharmacy, doctor, bar, post office and popular restaurant.

St Maixent de l'Ecole is a sizeable town with a weekly market, 4 supermarkets, 5 banks and all usual shops and services, just 20 mins drive away.

Niort is the department town for Deux Sevres and is 25 mins drive, whilst Poitiers (Vienne) is a 30 mins drive.

Golf des Forges is 12km. Horse riding Ranch de Sanxay 3km. Nearest fishing lake is at St Germier 4km.

The gastronomy of the region is abundant. Vasles, famous as the 'sheep village' is just a little further beyond Les Forges. Parthenay, famous for its beef, is a beautiful ancient town well worth exploring. The Goat Trail, famous for its goat cheese, meanders through the region. Seasonal produce abounds in the many local markets and supermarkets. There are many 'caves' offering tastings of the locally grown wines.

Whether you choose to cook at home, or visit the many restaurants around, you are assured of delicious tastes and flavours of the region, which will tempt you to return time and time again.
