House | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
VILLA GALATEA is located 5 km from Menfi in “Contrada Cipollazzo” between “località Fiori” and Porto Palo - the most important beach resort of the area. The beach extends for about 7 km.
MENFI is a village in an agricultural area with an important tourist attraction: grape cultivation which originated when the Greeks colonized the region. Every year at the end of June and the beginning of July a special wine festival takes place in Menfi: INYCON, “Menfi ed il suo vino” ('Menfi and her wine').
IDEALLY located for relaxation or daily excursions to some of the most important sights in Sicily such as Agrigento, Segesta, Palermo, Sciacca and Selinunte, Villa Galatea is easy to reach from the airports of Palermo and Trapani (about 1 hour). Low cost airlines which fly to these destinations: www.ryanair.com/ www.easyjet.com/ www.volotea.com
The OWNER of Villa Galatea introduces himself:
My name is Luigi, and I am a tour guide with an excellent knowledge of English; I have 10 years' experience as a professional Italian guide and am an expert on the culture, traditions, food, and wine of Sicily. I can suggest visits to the highlights of the area (visits to sights, wine and olive oil tasting, cooking classes, etc);
There is a small flying centre nearby (see http://www.extremeplanet.biz/english/Fly-ULM)
Two mountain bikes are available (no charge); recently a cycleway has been built on the old railway which connected Menfi to Porto Palo.
If needed I can arrange excursions and transfers from/to the airport.
Please do not hesitate to contact me.
Your trip to Sicily will be a unique experience and you will make close contact with culture, art and everyday life. I will make all the arrangements necessary to make your stay in Sicily the most memorable of your life!

The Sicily region
SICILY is the largest island in the Mediterranean, and the largest region in Italy. It's packed with things to see and places to go
SICILY is a land of extremes and contrasts, a magnification of all things.
SICILY it is also an island of enormous intensity, a concentrated distillation of history, architecture and gastronomic delights, where incandescent volcanoes light up the night skies, mountain ranges jostle for supremacy, and where the sea has sculpted a coastline of stunning variety and beauty.
With its wonderful climate, Sicily is eminently visitable all the year round and each season has its own distinctive charm.
There is always something to do, whether it be lounging on golden beaches, hiking in the mountains, visiting ancient archaeological sites, skiing on Mount Etna or shopping in Palermo's fashionable boutiques.
Wherever you turn you will see evidence of Sicily's 3,000 years of history as the strategic crossroads of Europe. Nowhere else have Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Normans, French, Germans, Spanish, Italians, and even the British, left such an enormous collective legacy. The island is a vast open-air museum, a testament to nearly every Mediterranean civilisation of the past.
The long, often deserted sandy beaches are without a doubt one of the major attractions of the area around Menfi. Villa Galatea is located just 300 meters far from a beautiful sandy beach. From the wild beaches of the Belice Nature Reserve (10 mins by car) to the fully equipped beach resorts with sports and restaurant facilities of Porto Palo, this area is a magnet for beach lovers.
For those in search of culture, the superb Greek archaeological site of Selinunte is one of the finest in the Mediterranean. Menfi itself is a centre of the local wine industry, with several wineries, including a large Planeta winery that produces some of the best known wines.
Sciacca, too, is just up the coast. This old fishing port and spa town is well worth a visit, and has some great fish restaurants. And when you've done all that, head inland to see some fascinating hill towns, such as Caltabellotta or Sambuca.
Agrigento, Segesta, Palermo, Mothia and Trapani are just an hour by car.
