About the home

Villa la Grona is a spacious modern villa ( 300 m2) surrounded by terraced gardens (4500 m2). Breathtaking views from the house, garden and swimming pool. You may not want to get out of the house once you are settled in your deckchair with a good glass of wine or a fresh beer!
It's a very peaceful, private and luxurious place to rest, relax and enjoy of the outstanding lake and mountains sight.

Villa la Grona is 5 mins from Menaggio centre , boulevard, shops, and restaurants . It is also 5 mins from an 18 holes golf course ( the oldest in Italy with very difficult greens) and perfectly situated to explore the area.

From the courtyard, with a flight of outer stairs, you reach the main floor: homely living room with in the centre a cosy fireplace, dining area, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with shower and double bedroom. Roofed terraces and access to the gardens.

A staircase takes you down to the sleeping quarters: a twin and a double bedrooms each one with en suite bathroom and French windows opening up to the gardens . The third double bedroom, also with en suite bathroom, is on the same level, but has an independent entrance from the garden. The third bedroom has twins beds and it has a magnificent view on the lake from his terrace.
Two baby cots are available upon request. The villa can host a maximum of 10 guest by adding an extra bed in the twin room and another one in the double room downstairs.

The property is fenced and includes a four cars garage.

The villa has a homely atmosphere with lots of outer spaces, roofed terraces and secluded garden corners both in the sun and shadow, focussing all the open air swimming pool. The private pool (12 x 4 x 1,7 meters) offers lake view swimming.
The property is big (4500 m2), a mature terraced garden on several levels. Private and relaxing with it's beautiful flowers, trees and stunning views. You can also sit down in the garden on several places from which you have every time a different view over the lake.
Large table for alfresco dining, covered by sunscreen. Children's playground with swing. BBQ available.
This property is very exclusive, grace of it's spacious rooms, it's spot and the private well treated garden.
In season's fruits and vegetables from the garden are available to our guests! At night you can light up the garden and feel yourself like one of the stars who are living around the lake of Como.

The Lombardy / Lake Como Area region

Milan is the capital of Lombardy and a large city with very interesting historical buildings, excellent shopping, museums, concert hall la Scala and has frequent tradefairs.

Lake Como is 40 km north of Milan and Menaggio is half way along the lake on the north west coast line.

Lake Como is a very beautiful lake and wealthy families from Milan built in the 18-19th centuries their summer residences to get away from the warm and humid town. A number of these villa's and their parks, can be visited and are a great attraction: Villa Carlotta ( azalea's), Villa Melzi in Bellagio, Villa Balbianello in Lenno, Villa Monastero in Varenna.

Today lake Como is still very much en vogue: the rich and the beautiful ( cinema and footballplayers i.e ) fight for the " exclusive" properties .

The high Alps are not far and in 90 mins you are in St. Moritz a well-known ski resort, which is also very beautiful in summer.

The climate is temperate due to its sheltered position at the south side of the Alps. Spring time starts in April and Autumn in October. The winters ( not bad for a winter break!) are bright and sunny, although a good snow fall is not an exception and therefore the higher valleys and tops of the surrounding mountains remain snow covered far into march. The hottest month is July ( 30 C) but a lovely afternoon breeze makes it very pleasant.

Lake Como was already known to the celts and romans ( archaeological sites, Romanesque buildings) and in the medieval times often the scene of combat between ruling families, you will notice the watchtowers in the villages, walled castles .

The Menaggio / Loveno area

Menaggio is a little town and has everything you need , but also in 30 mins you reach Como- city or Lugano (Switzerland). It has a very nice city centre with narrow streets, good shops and restaurants, and cosy piazza's . In summer there are concerts, antique markets and all year round the weekly market is a great attraction also to the locals, they come down from the mountains with their fresh made cheese, have a chat while buying their vegetables and you will find your Italian bargain between pots and pans , shoes and garments.

Menaggio has a lovely boulevard with lots of flowers, midget golf, and swimming pool and very pleasant for evening stroll, pleasure harbour, boat stop,. In front you see Bellagio and Varenna , a beautiful triangle , frequent boat service at your service.

Lake Como is surrounded by mountains, good for walking, hiking, mountainbiking, but there are also excellent narrow winding roads and you will discover by car forgotten villages, old churches, small restaurants where they serve you the local food like polenta and misoltin (sun dried fish of the lake), the local wines are also excellent and strong.
